Any chance a person with a K1 GBA would try out Dwedit's PocketNES 6-13-2012? I ask because I know my Gamebox Advance fails on it as well as Dwedit's previous latest PocketNES version, I presume from the error ("bad jump on 600....") because it tries to run code from VRAM which the Gamebox Advance apparently doesn't like. :) Given the K1 GBA doesn't use an emulator, I hope it behaves appropriately. That's especially true since Dwedit's latest versions do lots of tricks with VRAM, both to gain more usable RAM as well as to have speed-ups (as VRAM is faster than EWRAM, IIRC). So, that'd be a rather interesting test of compatibility.

K100 is K1-SP sharp and K101 is new shape.

K100 don't support RTC,but K101 support RTC(Hard RTC)
K100 can consider to support the soft RTC in the future (Firmware upgrade).

Soft RTC is only a RTC emulator.

This doesn't have Gamecube link support, does it?

If not, you can't say this is an 1:1 clone!
All I know is that it has no backwards compatibility with original GB and GBC games. Plus the "100% compatibility" advertising is misleading... the FAQ on their site specifically says that it's "compatible with 100% of games" but "only 99% compatible" with said games. This means there are occasional hiccups, etc in gameplay in some games. Granted, that isn't too bad, but it's still definitely not a "1:1 clone" if it doesn't have true 100% compatibility, or all the features of the original, despite having many of its own.

I'm curious about the way games look ... GBA resolution is 240x160. When you set this K1GBA to play GBA games, it displays them at 320x212. So yes, the ratio aspect is the same, but the resolution is not. In other words, the image is being scaled (stretched), even if it is equal horiz/vert scaling. What effect does this have on the look of things?? It's obviously not going to be a pixel-for-pixel perfect reproduction.

The appearance of DS games on the 3DS is a good example of scaling to the same ratio aspect, but with a different resolution. And to be honest, it bothers me so much on my 3DS that I'm considering the purchase of a new DS before I can't get one anymore.

There's actually a button combination you can press that makes DS games display at their native resolution on the 3DS. I'm not sure how to do it, though.

I am aware of this. You just holding down Start or Select when booting the game. You can do the same with the GB/GBC/GBA virtual console games (though not with NES, since it can display at native resolution on the full screen I think). But when you do that, the resulting displayed area is annoyingly small - much smaller than on the original device.

D/n really matter for this discussion ... can't do it at all on the K1GBA as far as I know. You play at 320x212 like it or not ... question is, do you like it? Remains to be seen. I'm not stupid enough to say it can't be done and look great ... I'm just not putting my money into one until I hear from some early adopters.

Amazon has decent conditioned SPs for about $30 and backlight AGS101s for $50...
But these days, you can't get a decent gba flash cart . This is where the kgba comes! It comes with the k-card that can play all the games without have to relying on emulation!
An EZ Flash IV costs about $30 and works just as well. That's about the same price total as a K1, plus perfect compatibility TRULY 100%, plus GB/GBC compatibility, plus the EZ Flash IV can work on all GBAs, unlike the Kcard which is limited to the K1. Plus many people (like me) already own GBAs, meaning the $30 EZ Flash IV vs the $70 K1 is a no-brainer, at least for them.

Only pro the K1 has is the TV out and increased resolution. Which if that's what u like, go ahead.

The k1 also has rtc and has official support for emulating many more consoles, the cpu is overclockable to 150mhz which gives it more grunt for the same.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think

do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
