The Nintendo Switch 2 has been delayed to 2025, according to reports

The Nintendo Switch has had a dominant life as a hybrid console-handheld, enjoying success since its launch in 2017. However, late last year heard some rumblings that Nintendo was preparing to move onward to a successor to the Nintendo Switch. According to Video Games Chronicle, Eurogamer, and other insider sources, development kits for a "Switch 2" had already been sent out to third-party devs, and rumors were claiming that the system would launch sometime in 2024.

Now, things have changed. While Nintendo was planning to launch the Switch 2 around late 2024, those same insider sources claim that due to some internal delays, the next-gen Nintendo console is targeting a Q1 2025 launch--similar to the original Switch, which launched in March 2017. VGC's sources state that the Switch 2 still plans on being a hybrid system, offering portable functionality, while Eurogamer corroborates VGC's statements, while additionally adding that the reasoning is so that the Switch 2 features as many launch titles as possible.

I'd bet an announcement will probably still come at the end of this year.

Would be funny if they do October announcement and March release again like they did for the original Switch.

I think Nintendo maybe can be slower to release Nintendo Switch 2 out. Hope system must have a least 8 cores (16 threads), 16 GB RAM, 1 TB - 2 TB storage (First time use NVMe SSD PCIe 3.0/4.0/5.0 2280) for both operating system files & games and GPU with least 8 GB VRAM that support ray tracing. If don't meet system then I and people would not buy due to low or weak system info.

Buy another gaming computer again to punch Nintendo Switch 2 system out! Nintendo Switch 2 system will never beat gaming computer. LOL :rofl2::rofl2:

in my opinion the delay in the release of Switch 2,is because they want to sell as many oled Switch consoles as possible, before putting the new one on the market which is already ready(personal opinion).

Metroid Prime 4

Is quite possible they launch Metroid Prime 2 since Metroid Prime 1 for Switch was a surprise launch and a Gamecube game. Metroid Prime 2 is also a Gamecube game.

Add a few more Gamecube and Wii ports, maybe Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2? And you keep things going for the rest of the year.

new system is backward compatible?

It won't be. That would require it to be more expensive. Modern Vintage Gamer even has a video about that. Also the Switch isn't backward compatible so why do that with the Switch 2 when basically everyone who wants a Switch already has one?

If it's on the same architecture and utilizes the same cartridges, there's no reason backward compatibility has to cost more. Even by Nintendo standards, it'd be an especially stupid move to not make the successor backward compatible with the best-selling console of all time.

Switch games are still being pumped out at a stupid rate, and with over 130 million switches sold its almost suicidal to launch a new console that only plays 3 titles. Old games will certainly require patching to utilize any new anti-piracy measures on the new console.

So it seems inevitable we going to end up with a digital only console all thanks to the MIG switch knuckleheads. It is highly doubtful you could use your old carts on the new console.
