'Red Dead Redemption' PS4 and Switch port pricing is 'commercially accurate', says Take-Two CEO

After announcing the release of Red Dead Redemption, including its Undead Nightmare expansion, on PS4 and Switch, the $50 pricing and the non-remastered state was divisive among the fanbase. During a Take-Two earnings call following the announcement, IGN asked CEO Strauss Zelnick for clarifications about the pricing choice. “That's just what we believe is the commercially accurate price for it,” Zelnick replied.

IGN followed by asking if Undead Nightmare was the reason for its $50 price, to which Zelnick said that the expansion “was a great standalone game in its own right when it was originally released, so we feel like it's a great bundle for the first time, and certainly a great value for consumers.”

While he was vague about a potential PC release, the CEO had the following to say for the choice of a port over a remaster:

"It depends on the vision that the creative teams have for a title, and in the absence of having a powerful vision, for something that we would do with a title, we might bring it in its original form, we've done that, and in certain instances we might remaster or remake, so it really depends on the title and how the label feels about it, the platform, and what we think the opportunity is for consumers."

Can't lose what they never had.

The social experiment just keeps going.

Question I have, is how many sales before it breaks a profit? 1, or 2?
Yeah but its fun to say that.
Will be interesting to see how fast the digital and physical versions get discounted.

Profit though, I think they are already making a profit on the attention alone.

wtf really? that's ridiculous. Ah well. It would have been nice if spyro had a physically release on switch. when nintendo closes the switch servers in a decade, all these games will not be playable. Since this is a new thing, I wonder how those lawsuits will go. That box in particular just says 2 and 3 are download-only. It says nothing about 1 needing download to finish.
yup all are unfinished, same way for bioshock collection, it has like 1 hour of each game so none is complete, borderlands it does have the first game complete on cartridge but im not sure if all the dlc is there only some.

Nope. Bioshock is different. I have it on switch.

Same as in Bioshock Collection on Switch. Bioshock is there, the second as well, but the third only has basically the intro level.

And I believe you need to download the extras as well.

My dude, you can complete the first. I have the damn thing. The only time I had to download a game was on the third, where those weird twins are on a bar and you are presented to vigors.

You do need to get the forced updates, though.
I'm not sure about the second. It has dlc that needs downloading and gives a warning about it. All of them do, actually.

I just started the games on my offline very pirated switch. I played them on my legit lite, and the only waiting time I had was on the third.

Rockstar seems to be taking notes from Nintendo.
I don't see what's wrong either, Nintendo has been doing this since the dawn of time, it's called nostalgia marketing, where i up the resolution of an ancient game, then sell it as a new experience, knowing full well it's gonna bomb the market even with piracy and emulation around.
So just because another company overcharges their games that means its okay for other publishers to do the same as well? Genius logic my guy -_- Pretty sad we always see people siding with the corporation over the consumer. Stupid people will be stupid people I guess.

Can always get the game for way less on Xbox or just emulate it on PC.

I bought a physical copy of RDR 1 GOTY for Xbox 360 last year for like 12 dollars. It even came with the map and manual! My game is a better version of the PS4/Switch version, because it has online multiplayer. Rockstar could at least add online multiplayer to the Switch and PS4 version with cross play.

Also, this is why an all digital future saddens me. You can very often find a used copy of a game for way cheaper than a digital copy.

This post was meant to be satirical bro, im literally saying the following indirectly: nintendo does it for years, no one bats an eye, rockstar does it and suddenly they're the devil.

The very fact that you understood what you wanted to understand, shows how much of a retarded mindset you have, it's sad seeing people like you even giving an opinion on this.

The only thing i agree with you on, is that you understand nothing of marketing and selling a product, you're acting as if this is the first cashgrab for rockstar or any other company.
