Yes, you've seen that right. USB HDD support is coming to Goldleaf and Atmosphere!

PR (that needs to be worked on):
https://github.com/XorTroll/Atmosphere/tree/fspusb-dev/stratosphere/fsp-usb
Debug build of Goldleaf: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/526484034310635551/555099624591851538/Goldleaf.rar

NOTE:
It's currently unstable (but working)
FAT32 support only (for now)
Installs currently doesn't work (but browsing and copying and pasting work fine).

The feature will most likely be coming to Goldleaf 0.6! Thanks to @XorTroll for expanding upon the work of @Sigma_Guy (who implemented it in the first place).
UPDATE 1: There's now a new GitHub page for the USB HDD repo (renamed to fsp-usb) which allows for mounting of USB drives.
Everything from the repo apparently works fine except for messing with more than one drive.
If you know to compile the repo then you can mess around with the feature. Don't worry if you can't because it'll be merged into atmosphere soon.
No ETA yet though!

No it isn't.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also finished edit. Hope you like it :)
You can't install NSP files to USB drives. You can mount XCI files from USB drives. So USB HDD support is pointless for anything related to expanding your game library, without the crucial element that is XCI Mounting

This is still in debugging stages mind you. Once this is finalised you can install NSP files from USB HDD and it'll be stable.
Installing from USB is fine, its a convenience feature. But you can't play games directly from USB which means you need to install to your internal micro-SD to play anything, so you're still largely limited by the size of your MicroSD card. XCI Mounting prevents this issue entirely.

If there is ever a way to load NSP files without having to install them I'll be sure to let you know.

If you want to setup your switch with all switch games ever and have a menu that your kids use to select games, then it's useless.

I don't think I'd want to install NSP to USB though, mainly because my switch is never docked.

I'm sure there are people who will find a use for installing NSP from USB, to avoid removing their microsd card.

A USB-C Thumb drive is a GREAT investment tbh! <3
Let's keep in mind that the tools to do this are in very early stages and haven't been updated in months. Except for NSC Builder. Even then, the only tutorial for it is on the TX website (which is months out of date).
The tools to convert NSP to XCI are well developed and mature and there are great batch file front-ends that can do entire directories, merging DLC and Updates into each XCI too.

NSC Builder is the only mature one...

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
