i know about the region lock in 3ds

but i get confused about this (nfo from the contrast release):
Don't always trust the game serial code printed on cartridge sticker or even
on the back of the cart. Our sources were EUR but chips inside got serial

i'm sorry wot

3ds is region locked, that means only games from europe will work on europe consoles and japan games will only work on japan consoles

but in the case of pokemon X and Y in a rom release, the team said the game was european, but the chip got a USA serial, so i get confused on whether or not a pokemon usa game will work on a european console

Games are released in 3 regions. J, U, and E. (and possibily some other ones like Korea and stuff). Basically your 3DS region needs to match the game's region to work.

Just like how the US versions of B/W/B2/W2 were identical to the European versions (only the sticker on the cartridge was different.)

Does this apply to the DSi as well? I found some USA Pokemon Platinum and Diamond games but my DSi is 1.4.5 E (Europe).

Well, I'm really not sure about this, but if my memory is right, the DS Tank/DS Lite are region free, the DSi / DSi XL are region locked, and the 3DS / 3DS XL / 2DS / N3DS / N3DS XL are region free on the DS side. So while I may be wrong, your games probably won't work with your DSi.

Thank You so much for the quick reply! Then I'll just have to find the EUR versions of the game which is a bit hard to do here in my country :-P.

You're welcome! And actually, I just checked, and it seems the DSi is region free too! From what I've just read, only the DSi exclusive titles are region locked, so your DS games should work just fine. I can't test it though, but if you can, you should give it a try :)
Sorry for my misleading first post :/

The Pokemon games are special cases, because they are essentially region free, the region lock is in the application's icon and in the case of the Pokemon games the icon data is region free, but the update partition on the cart is still region specific, and due to that, the games still can't normally be played out-of-region.
However, it may boot if the system has not been set up yet using the A+B+X+Y+R button combination, as I believe this skips the update partition check. Since that only works on a new console or a console that has been just formatted, it's not too useful.

You can certainly use RegionFour (or the upcoming R5) to play out of region games, all it takes nowadays is having the web browser on your 3DS in order to load the homebrew launcher.

The 3DS isn't region locked, the games are.
Pokemon are region free and the language they end up playing in will depend in your system's region iirc

Since the 3DS checks the game's header, and then depending on the game's region displays it or not, doesn't that mean the console is region locked too?
And isn't Pokemon one of the only games where you actually choose the language at the creation of a save?

Well, I do know a few games that go both ways, some check the system and others allow you to choose the language, I honestly can't recall which one Pokemon is, hence the iirc.

Oh, okay. I'm not sure, but I think all the 3DS ones (X/Y/OR/AS) let you choose your language, while the DS ones only contain 1 language. At least that's what happened for me on the White version (I got a spanish version and it was not possible to change the language, even with the console set to english, so I didn't understand anything).

I would like a Predator game "Kill Team" it takes place in the Jungle of the first movie, your team is sent to hunt the predator, using current tech drones and a trained team. Set traps use strategy to hunt and trap or kill the predator.

Ill stick with my Battlefield. Yea a predator hunting game like that would be cool. Esp if you can be Arnold and say "Get to da choppa"

I went today and looked at a motorcycle someone was selling. I get there and the battery on it was dead, so the guy grabbed a battery charger and hooked it up. He plugged it into the wall, and the motorcycle sparked and started smoking. Come to find out the bike uses a 6 volt battery and the guy had the charger set to 12v. I said sorry to the dude and walked away. I felt bad for him tho.
