Would an entire Wii System Format ditch the system update?

Nope. It will just delete all your saves, channels, Wii Shop data (so that you can't copy them back or redownload them.)

It's a bit ironic that this update essentially forces any homebrew user who wants to continue to purchase games via WiiWare/VC to pirate them instead.

well homebrew is not *really* affected, only WADs and custom IOS installations... which are only done on pirating purpose
so your logic failed for me

i wonder if someone is already working on a custom fw with a recovery mode/channel(if possible, not talking about the dongle) that way we wouldn't have to be scared of installing whatever on our Wii(s) or even updating

just food for thought
If I'm not mistaken, this is the entire premise behind BootMii.
wow this slipped under my radar, well hopefully this will be a help someday seeing how this updated screwed some people over

Meh, there's nothing good coming out for the Wii soon anyways, besides AC, but that's a purchase. But the VC games is a problem. Someone will find a way around this as usual

If worst comes to be I'll buy ACWii for 60 dollars and make a backup. I'll keep the game stored away in case the homebrew community bypassed all this like from 3.2 to 3.3.

So don't fret, Animal Crossing isn't going to kill anyone now. You can remove the updater from the backup and play that just fine.

I'm using 'cios_downgrader_v11' to downgrade to 3.3E (it failed when I tried 3.2E) using the Homebrew channel.

I'll let you guys know if it works.

EDIT: Didn't work.

How about Any Title Deleter?

So, skimming this thread it seems like if you already have the HBC installed and you don't care about wads (I just play all the old games I want via emus) you're good to go and update, right?

So the homebrew channel still works? I was allways under the impression that it would stop working once Nintendone patches the trucha bug in all it's IOS-versions. So either I was mistaken (well that wouldn't be the first time
biggrin.gif
) or the main thing that say fixed is the file-system-bug that allowed channels and wads to be installed...

Edit: Seems I was just wrong. XD As I understand it now IOS only checks if a title is signed correctly when it installs them... weird security...

What about scrubbed backups? Are they affected?
Why should they ? They have nothing to do with fakesigning. Garbage content is just nulled out on those discs.

already installed channels (pirate or homebrew) are not affected, only when you want to install new ones
the signature is only checked when you call the ES functions to add a new Title (apparently)

I guess Nintendo could also look for unknown title IDs and remove them automatically but it seems they don't want to go this road (maybe because it would only affect homebrew and dvdx hidden channels ? or maybe because they just don't have the list of all existing channels

)

@RadioShadow:

I did the downgrader 1.2ver and it works when i did the 3.2u, but not much help, 'cuz the bug fixed is still inside of the Wii, so even if can downgrade, if you already did the update, you're screwed.....

......JUST LIKE I AM!!!

EDIT: I ran the AnyTD and the last time i cheked IOS51 and IOS10 weren't there, can anyone tell me if deleting this don't brick my Wii?? I don't have the SaveMii and BootMii is not even avaible right now, please tell me tell me...!!!

Ok I confused what are these problems. Everyone is taking about no being able to install wads.
I just updated my legit WII and it to has the Homebrew Channel on it. To test it out. I tried to install MegaMan 9. It worked, and I could still play backups on it.
The only thing i noticed is my system still just says 3.3U

What do you guys do with your already installed cIOS before the update?
should it be save to leave it installed or better to remove it first?
Well, if it's confirmed, that WADs can't be installed after the update...
