Ok I confused what are these problems. Everyone is taking about no being able to install wads.
I just updated my legit WII and it to has the Homebrew Channel on it. To test it out. I tried to install MegaMan 9. It worked, and I could still play backups on it.
The only thing i noticed is my system still just says 3.3U
did you remove the Custom IOS before you did the update? Or didn't you have one installed?

According to the Wad Manager I have a Custom IOS install. Well the one for the BUL. But ya just did again and it works. So if your custom IOS is 249 your good to go all round? Just trying to help the communtiy here. I have a 3rd Wii just for Homebrew that I don't update at all.

You know, from the other thread about the Wii's ease of hacking someone said Starlet has been decrypted.

Wouldn't now be time to release a shiny new IOS that ignores all this mandatory updates?

If you have updated your wii to 3.4, then how can you downgrade to 3.2 for example?

If this goes to me....

There is no 3.4....its just another 3.3....i downgraded it with the cIOS Downgrader ...and everything is working...

What do you guys do with your already installed cIOS before the update?
should it be save to leave it installed or better to remove it first?
Well, if it's confirmed, that WADs can't be installed after the update...

I just updated my Wii. I have 2 more so It doesn't matter if I brick one. With the Custom IOS from the BUL still installed. Everything works like before. That I can tell. If you need proof. I can make a Video.

the downgrader is in http://wii.waninkoko.info

Weird mueueps, I couldn't, when I load the AnyTD i get 2 error first is "-1017" and the second is "-102" but I keep pressing "A" and get to the deleting part, and I've found a file in "Instaled Channel Titles" call "424c3043 (BLOC)", sounds stupid but maybe if I erase is the solution, duh, but I'm not doing it 'till i know this for sure

No,TheWon, mate. thx.
I'll trust you.
Also I won't update at this point, anyway.

Better to wait until dhewg, blasty, marcan, bushing, segher, souLLy, drmr or mha release a new version of the homebrewchannel or they or any other Guru will confirm all homebrew benefits working

i had absolut no problems....just updated as usual....and downgraded with the cIOS Downgrader from waninkoko....then it installed the cios for 3.2E and after 5min. it was done....i can't tell anything more...sry...im just happy that it works!^^

Ok then, but if you have the 249 for the Backuploader installed. Go ahead and update. I did and I can still install wads, use all my Homebrew apps, and go to the Wiishop. I didn't uninstall anything.

One simple question.
If you will update to 3.4 through a game, then downgrade to 3.2 and after that you'll insert the same game, will it require again an update?

I am guilty of not reading this entire thread...but this is what I gathered from someone who tried the new update and here are his results...thanks alot guinea pig....

A. Does it affect WADs?
- If you had the most recent cIOS, I believe that WAD Manager 1.21 STILL works (it does for some i believe...), Unsure though!!

B. Does it affect HBC?
- If you had yours already installed, it doesn't, but it seems to block new installations of it.

C. Does it affect Already installed games?
- In no way this upgrade affects anything already installed, unless it is something that must use a IOS, because they have been patched.

D. Can you downgrade and have the Shop Channel working?
You can't downgrade for the time being, so nobody can test if you can enter the WSChannel after downgrading.

To sum up, we are pretty screwed right now, as you cant access the shop without the update, and if you do update, what ive put above happens

I updated, and i regret it.

Hopefully some of the tools which use Ios etc, get altered so we can re-use them!

Because these patches ios wise, are bugs from the old menu, and have now been fixed

I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THIS FIRMWARE BY NINTENDO IS STILL A 3.3!!
Also the info you get in your message board is regarding the wii shop channels, the updates for that and optionals are:

Wii Points will soon be called Nintendo Points, and all references as such will be updated. All other functionality with Nintendo Points will remain the same.
The controller usage explanation screen will be updated.
The controller usage explanation screen will be separated from the purchase screen. Along with this, the user will be prompted to confirm that they have any necessary accessories before being able to press the Purchase button.
The design of the icons displayed will be updated.

THE WORST THING IS IT BLOCKS FAKE SIGNED IOS's, i understand you know who! is preparing for updated tools to downgrade etc

Well if it helps any I can confirm that the homebrew channel works perfect for me. I have an ntsc wii with d2ckey installed wired no clip and now the latest firmware and i installed hbc through the installation disc that could only be used if you had a modchip so if there are any problems with hbc from the zelda tp hack than that might be were the problem can be fixed. so far as whats teh different between the two installation methods

@RadioShadow:
U need to Reg in the forum but is in Spanish so here you go..!!

@ mueueps:
I think the problem is on the NTSC more than the PAL, I enter on a japanesse page and they all got screwed (all with update), I shoud've listened, but well now it is not time to say that....lol

Well I have the problem I can't install wads since I didn't install the latest ciso. >_<

*tries file*

EDIT: Homebrew Channel won't run the file. The heck?

So this is why my Wii was blinking at me at 4 AM this morning and woke me up. I'll give it a pass until its confirmed safe for homebrew.

I just tried it and yes there is a problem with it. My game freezes up when I get to create a save option. So the Region Free Option was affected.

PAL Wii Update Summary (version remains 3.3E)

Got my fingers on a non chipped PAL Wii. So I did the update:

As i was informed on waninkoko.info
QUOTE said:
2008/10/23 - New Wii update available. Trucha bug FIXED in all IOS versions. I recommend the installation of a Custom IOS (cIOS or PatchMii).
That's what I did before the update.
  • cIOS FIX was installed
  • HBC beta 8 was installed
After the update:
  • HBC beta 8 is still there and usable
  • WiiShop is now working again
  • WAD BackupLoader Channel was able to install using WAD Manager 1.21
  • BackupLoader (v0.1- hook type) still works
  • WUFE, FS Dumper and AnyTD also still work
I won't remove HBC and retrry the TW-Hack. at least not now... still waitin' if there might come a new version from marcan or Co.
So as it concerns a PAL WII i would say it's save to update and still be able to use all HB benefits.

But anyway it's up to you if you risk it...
I can take no responsibility for any damage caused.
