I did the update, the mail says that it'll be only a WiiShop update but if I did a no authorized modification it could damage the game or the console, I only have installed VC games boughted and the only channel no authorized will be the HBC, I think all the people making wad's for the SNES or NES or whatever should stop doing this and delete these channels, if you don't want a brick, everytime you start a channel the Wii write that down and it is un-eraseble, maybe "N" pick that info up by night and now they know if you have the SNES006 channel, thing that doesn't really exist, but to see the people starting the HBC it could be anything, they could be playing, IDK, matching cards (LOL) or whatever except illegal..!!

That's only what i think, I could be wrong (more possible)

By the way, everything is working like if I didn't the update

The shop channel is saying that there's an update to the shop channel. And you can't go in with out it. So, who wants to take one for the team?
Who actually buys things from the shop channel??? (I kid)

Anyway, I doubt Nintendo would disable the wii shop channel for non updaters be3cause that would only increase the temptation to use downloaded wad files. But what do I know...

Yes yes, Nintendo will come and brick your console, kill your pet and rape your mom, yes....

QUOTEWho actually buys things from the shop channel??? (I kid).

People that don't pirate everything they can and can aprecidate what Nintendo did. I.E. me. I use wads, but few "must haves" are on my "Titles you have downloaded" list. I.e Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG.

One thing I don't understand now.
So they say this update will fix the trucha bug in all IOS's. But the homebrew channel, if already installed, will still work. Why is that? That channel has to run through an IOS too, right? But the channel has been truchasigned, so how can it run?

edit:
asked this too over at tehskeen. the channel is signed, but only checked during install, not on booting

The check works upon installing of a wad/channel/signed content so already installed ones keep working...

I'm with marcan on this too.

If you're going to pirate, no one here can stop you, just don't update your wii, but don't expect marcan, bushing, segher, svpe, etc. to help you, It's just not their thing.

I would suggest waninkoko and marcan have a private talk as it's obvious marcan knows of something bad that could happen in the future if he uses his "dirty workaround" (which I speculate could be something involving nintendo "fixing" something without factoring in someone else's code being there, in turn permabricking a system unintentionally) and just let this be a lesson to people who want their cake and want to eat it too. If you don't want to deal with consequences of updates, check and make sure beforehand. I know this obviously doesn't help anyone who already updated as I'm not trying to throw anything in anyone's face, but to suggest to always be cautious of what it is you're doing with anything of yours.

If you're unsure, don't do it.

TL;DR - Trust the people who originally discovered the hacks as they know more than we do and always be careful what you install.

Alright, just to be clear and see if I understand this.
The update makes it so you can no longer install WADs onto the system like the downloaded Wiiware and Virtual Console titles, as well as custom channels?

from what i can work out.

Its only checks the signature on installations... so:
installed stuff works (and i guess programs on the SD card)
installing new channels will fail (VC games and other channels)

just don't update, unless you need the shop.

Just my speculation, but I think it has to do with ticket information.

I think with wad manager when you remove something the ticket goes with it too, but if you just delete the channel from the wii system menu the ticket stays there, in turn allowing you to reinstall the channel since the ticket never left (why you can redownload VC games back onto your wii from an SD card you copied them to for example) and in order to put a hacked ticket onto your wii, you need the security holes still open, otherwise you can't add it, in turn you can't install the channels.

That includes the HBC install right? (yeah i know it still works if you have that already installed)

That sucks

... i guess Animal Crossing will have that update, and also read some new games DO NEED the new updates in order to run (like Wii Music, of course you can still run it with geckoOS...)

Has anyone managed to get the Wii Channel to load the contents with the latest update?

EDIT: Looks like the Wii Shop is down.

i wonder if someone is already working on a custom fw with a recovery mode/channel(if possible, not talking about the dongle) that way we wouldn't have to be scared of installing whatever on our Wii(s) or even updating

just food for thought

I'm buying AC for the wii, so I guess, someday, I HAVE to update...

Not necessarily, Try it with GeckoOS first, It bypasses update forces/checks.

Of course there's plenty of time for nintendo to recode it so the game itself checks, but I guess we'll worry about that when it happens

If I'm not mistaken, this is the entire premise behind BootMii.

I'm using 'cios_downgrader_v11' to downgrade to 3.3E (it failed when I tried 3.2E) using the Homebrew channel.

I'll let you guys know if it works.

EDIT: Didn't work.

It's a bit ironic that this update essentially forces any homebrew user who wants to continue to purchase games via WiiWare/VC to pirate them instead.
