So this is why my Wii was blinking at me at 4 AM this morning and woke me up. I'll give it a pass until its confirmed safe for homebrew.

Paranoia hit me earlier this week so I pulled the plug on my Wii earlier this week
with all the development going on Nintendo was sure to come up with a new version, and god knows maybe they could push it without user confirmation.

I've been reading this since the start and only just registered, but I must say it is one nice piece of literature with all the hectic events that took place.
I have HBC on 3.3E, will test as soon as news arrives from the developers, also have some iso's ready.

My respect to the devs & testers !

PAL Wii Update Summary (version remains 3.3E)

Got my fingers on a non chipped PAL Wii. So I did the update:

Before the update:
  • cIOS FIX was installed
  • HBC beta 8 was installed
After the update:
  • HBC beta 8 is still there and usable
  • WiiShop is now working again
  • WAD BackupLoader Channel was able to install using WAD Manager 1.21
  • BackupLoader (v0.1- hook type) still works
  • WUFE, FS Dumper and AnyTD also still work
I won't remove HBC and retrry the TW-Hack. at least not now... still waitin' if there might come a new version from marcan or Co.
So as it concerns a PAL WII i would say it's save to update and still be able to use all HB benefits.

But anyway it's up to you if you risk it...
Wad Installing still works because of the cIOS you have installed. The Wad Manager detects and uses it and therefore is able to still use the signing bug as it's still in the cIOS.
If you wouldn't have it, you were stuck

A. Does it affect WADs?
- If you had the most recent cIOS, I believe that WAD Manager 1.21 STILL works (it does for some i believe...), Unsure though!!

D. Can you downgrade and have the Shop Channel working?
You can't downgrade for the time being, so nobody can test if you can enter the WSChannel after downgrading.

A. It is true but you need 1.21 I was unable to install wad's 'till I found out that I have the 1.1, (assh... me)

D. I did the downgrade and enter into the WiiShop with no problem, I think the cIOS is paying off, yeah!!

The people without cIOS installed and update Wii, wait for the HBC9...!!

It comes up with an error code which means the Wii Server is down. My Wii is using the latest update.

PatchMii starts to work and then fails.

CIOS Downgrader 1.2 just loads a black screen and then boots to the menu.

Looks like I'll just have to wait for a fix.

dont know what the big deal is i updated and all it did was disable my hbc but my chip still work and it was the first chip ever made for the wii

It's a bit ironic that this update essentially forces any homebrew user who wants to continue to purchase games via WiiWare/VC to pirate them instead.

well homebrew is not *really* affected, only WADs and custom IOS installations... which are only done on pirating purpose
so your logic failed for me

uhh if you can't connect to the shop without updating you can't buy anything, now can you?

So will this remove a Custom IOS36 rev04 or rev05 from the Wii if it's installed? Someone using the wifi dumper won't be able anymore if they update? or it shouldn't affect it?

Wow, after going through all these 20 pages, not one person explained what it does.

They've been going back and fricking forth saying HBC works, then people say it doesn't. WTF. ALL WIIS ARE THE SAME, HOW CAN ONE HBC WORK, AND FOR SOMEONE ELSE NOT WORK?

But I wanted to say thanks to the dude who posted that youtube video showing him updating, playing the backup loader, and going on the wii shop channel. That was helpful.

I also wanted to say thanks to djdynamite123 for risking their wii and updating and giving us news. I respect you for helping us all out.

Then read it again slowly.

If you have a Wii with the HomeBrew channel installed. No matter what IOS you're using, official or custom, it will not be deleted.

It's functionality drastically changes depending on how the Wii updated. If you updated using a CIOS, you don't have any issues.

If you updated with no CIOS, the channel has issues reported with some applications working and some don't.

can somebody clear up if the different version of the installed HBC causes those issues?
You know, some have HBC beta1 others have beta8 installed.

Does the backup loader v.01 and Waninkoko's loader work? What about the beta testers for the new v.03, does that one work?

Correct! and the guy who posted the Pal Wii information. Pretty much covers the effects of the US Wii.
The only problem I found with cios 249 already installed. Is the Region Free now does not work.
