You really show your ignorance when it comes to games programming. The initial check is done by nintendo's firmware, not the game. The game may not check the region until it needs to do something like play a video, or change to a different screen model.
Alot of games will have two sets of video in them, one for full screen PAL and another for full screen NTSC, the programmers then leave a set of videos out, ie pal removed for NTSC release, but dont alter the code that checks the region and looks up the video to play. So forcing a game to PAL would cause errors within the game.
So in future, if you've got nothing constructive to say, BUTT OUT!
For those who tested trauma centre and super swing golf did you try them on 60hz or 50hz mode?Maybe that could be the problem as digger explained some games wont boot when in one of the modes but will in other modes.

0015 - Super Swing Golf (VORTEX)
DOESN'T WORK
Shows up in disc channel but black screen when pressing 'Start'.
I can also confirm this doesn't wok. I tried it on 50Hz , 60Hz and HD but just get black screen each timeÂ
Yes, I do know more about the Wii than the majority, seeing as I have been a professional games developer for the last 15 years.Yes the check is done by the firmware... lets say the game did check the same region code, it would be the same result. The reason some games dont work is because they are hardcoded for a particular videomode and this kicks in right at the initialization of the game. It wont just stop working ingame if it already got past the region check and the videomode setup. Its not even known if the games have seperate PAL/NTSC videos and even if it did, how would it decide between the two (if the game was already detected as PAL it may opt for the PAL videos based on that).
My expanation is totally true, hence explain the 50hz / 60hz differences that allow some NTSC games to run whilst others dont. The NTSC games are designed to run at 60hz, Billy and Mandy will only run at 50hz, as the game is checking the region coding for the game after boot up and setting the mode to match the patched setting.
I really cannot be bothered to try and explain in simpler terms than I already have. Please read it again and see if you have misunderstood what I said, if it's not clear, tell me where it's not clear and I will correct it.
QUOTE(iNFiNiTY @ Feb 27 2007, 12:20 PM)But i guess you know more about the Wii than everyone right
Did the same thing to me and i fixed it by changing wii tv settings from 50hz to 60hz.that is a media/chip problem then, since the region check is bypassed no problems will be ingame because of that
Not really, it's down to the coders how they check the region byte, it can be checked multiple times throughout the game.
I'm mentioning it so that someone can confirm or deny they can get passed the 2nd tutorial, after looking around the room (with the locked door) using the controller. After doing this section, the screen hangs with a black screen, music continues to play for a bit, then corrupts.
This is using a Wiinja v2 and tried on a few different discs, gmb-elebu release.
I haven't checked the SDK but I wouldn't mind betting that there will be a way (maybe in future SDKs) for games to check the region of the console - it just seems like common sense. Then of course the hacking methods would move to finding where the region code is stored on the console and how to change it, which would be a motherboard mod not a drivemod.pelago id have to consult the SDK but i dont believe theres a function for the games themselves to check the region of the console, its just what the firmware reads from 0x43003 and tells the game
