I've seen a mention of something along the lines of a Metroid Prime 3: Corruption trick in multiple topics. What exactly does it do? Does it require a certain version of the game?

Thanks.

Metroid Prime 3 contains an update. If the game is from your own region, you can safely install it.
The NTSC version was released first and PAL later. So unpatient PAL users also wanted to play the game. But as you may know, running an update from a region that is not your own may brick your Wii. So they discovered a little trick. They let the update run, but cancelled it (by shutting down the Wii) when the update was at about 15% or so. That was enough to make the game run, but it wouldn't brick the Wii. But I believe it did result in duplicate news&weather channels.

no no wrong the problem with ntsc to pal was it contained a update which wii brick blocker couldnt remove so the trick is burn two isos on seperate discs one without brick blocker and one with brick blocker ,first you put in the disc without brick blocker update till 10 - 15 percent pull the plug on the wii and throw that disc in the bin ,then you put the brick blocked disc in and you are good to go ,this is the only way known to avoid duplicate channels i have did it with both galaxy and metroid and it worked a treat but i dont think ill be doing it again becuase who knows waht damage you are doing cancelling updates...

@Xdqwerty, Don't use games that have Easy Anti-Cheat as its been exploited many times.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare
