I see a lot of people discussing 5.5.1, but i'm not sure what the current version is if I update. Is it past 5.5.1? I'm also seeing a lot of posts telling people not to update as they might lose out on future opportunities.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

You can update to the latest update (I think it's 5.5.1 but it's been too long for me to remember) and use CFW, play backups and play online. No limits. The only small thing you'd ever have to worry about it is another update coming (which may or may not ever happen) that gets rid of CFW.

The latest version of the Wii U is 5.5.3. It is perfectly safe to update to 5.5.3, and it's the easiest option for you if you want to hack your Wii U.

5.5.3 used to be harder to exploit, but that's not the case anymore.

you've got to be fucking kidding me (i haven't updated yet)
You're one unlucky guy. Don't update to 5.5.4 until it's confirmed safe.

It should be noted, however, that Americans aren't receiving the 5.5.4 update yet. If you were to update now, you would probably get 5.5.3.

if worse comes to worse, you can update with a game. there should be a list of them and the firmware they contain in one of the tutorial threads. I'm still on 5.5.1 actually.

Where have you found such older wiiu?
And what the hell is vanilla? White?!

I think the update is on all regions right now.
Anyway they all are hackable.

vanilla usually means plain, untouched, not hacked. the wiiu was pretty much unused i think.

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare

@Psionic Roshambo, I have a rom of the ds version of impossible mission
