I already have that Ghost image done regularly :P
But only from my C partition (10GB, not the full 1Tb image), so my problem is more loosing my data on other partitions. I don't have everything saved elsewhere.

And I'm on a RAID5, so I didn't loose anything, It's currently restoring the missing data on the new drive based on the two other HDDs.
I could have used my PC with only 2 HDD, but I had my graphical card breaking on me too :(
I could put everything back only yesterday evening.

I'll change my current RAID5 (900GB RAID5) to a RAID0 (mirror 2TB) this weekend (after extensive backup), hoping the new drives will work fine, and then I'll be back :)

Glad to hear that you know this stuff. ;) And RAID is great. :D But you really should get an SSD for your OS & programs. It really makes a world of difference.

probably just a typo but I don't want you to potentially lose your data over a stupid mixup:
raid 0 is striping (-> no redundancy)
mirroring is raid 1

edit:
I want my raid 5 back, but the drivers are still not done
well at least the metadata is raid 10 to secure against corrupted sectors
but 8 spindle raid 0 makes me feel a bit too unsave for comfort

A friend said to me mirroring was 0 (but that's what I thought, 0 is to make multiple HDD looks like it's only a single one, right?)

Thanks, It will prevent me doing unnecessary steps.

Gambia, The
all raid levels make it look like a single drive
the difference is how large, fast and secure it is

assuming N drives
jbod: capacity xN, speed x1, fault tolerance 0 drives
raid 0: capacity xN, speed xN, fault tolerance 0 drives
raid 1: capacity x1, readspeed xN, writespeed x1, fault tolerance N-1 drives
raid 5: capacity x(N-1), readspeed xN, writespeed x(N-1), fault tolerance 1 drive
raid 10: capacity x(N/2) readspeed xN, writespeed x(N/2), fault tolerance 1 drive

Basic mirroring is RAID1. I've been doing this successfully using hardware RAID support so that it is transparent to the USB connection. I think I listed my drive on the compatibility list under "Drivestation Duo", if you're interested.

On another note: is this the best place to find pre-built .dol files of the latest beta release?

Yes. Here's r1202 : http://www.mediafire...1voyas284vs6qiv
(I think it's still the latest beta. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)
[quotenonotify name='statueofmike']
the source page currently shows r1202 as the newest. I haven't tried building my own yet. Thanks!
[/quote]
You can grab 1202 with DropBoxURL for custom GC channels from my sig.
Guys, just point people to the proper place -->> http://code.google.c...l?id=1769#c2913

Why isn't it useful?

Sorting by number of player should display the multiplayer games at the top.
Of course, it's not hiding single player games.

if you want to display ONLY multiplayer games, you would have to add a new game categories manually.

Then you can either:

1) Hide single player games
If you want to hide them, you would have to add a new game category manually (for example "Single player"), set the games with only single player to that category (one by one, in the individual game settings).

Then, when you want to hide the single player games:
- Go to the main Category menu from the top bar (the desk icon)
- Set "ALL" to [X]
- Set "Single Player" to [X]

it will display all games except the one containing a category marked as [X].

OR

2) Display only Multiplayer games
Create a new category (for example "Multiplayer"), set that category to all your multiplayer games (one by one).

Then, when you want to display only the games containing the multiplayer category:
- Go to the main Category menu from the top bar (the desk icon)
- Set "ALL" to [ ] (not checked at all)
- Set "multiplayer" to [v] (checked)

It will display all games which is part of the checked categories.

Hiding is maybe easier if you want to hide only one category.

For some reason my HDD is only recognized by USB Loader GX 1.0 r866 and earlier. If I use a newer version of
c204.gif
USB Loader GX it gets stuck on Initialize USB. Unfortunately this means I can't use any of the new features regarding loading gamecube games from USB. Is there any solution to this, or am I out of luck as far as using USB Loader GX goes? Every other loader works fine, but I've quite enjoyed GX's additional features and superb interface, and would like to continue using it if at all possible.

Edit: Some additional information. Under the credits page while using USB Loader GX, in the top right corner it says Rev874 IOS222 (Rev 4). I've just used ModMii to update all of my IOS and such, but I'm still getting the same error I was before. The only change is that when using my old version of USB Loader GX it takes longer to finally initialize the USB drive and tells me it might be slow or problematic. Games still run perfectly fine and at top speed.

Edit2: This is really starting to drive me crazy, like grind my teeth, punch a fucking hole in the wall crazy. The newer loaders will selectively start if I plug my hard drive in right as the "waiting for HDD: 20 sec left" prompt comes up, but only about 10% of the time. After I get the thing to load, and finally try to actually boot a Gamecube game, I get a really nice black screen. This is killing me. What bothers me most is that it's clearly capable of reading my HDD, but that it just refuses to do it 90% of the time. What arbitrary thing is causing this hang up? What changed between USB Loader GX 1.0 and current iterations that fucks up compatibility with my HDD?

When updating GX delete all the .cfg files (copy them to your PC if you want to keep them)
If you ran modmii you should have 249 - d2x v8 final base 56, 250 base 57, 222 - v5 or 5.1, 223 and 224 each with different bases
When downloading GX boot.dol use the 249 version first (usually has the best compatibility), then try 222 and 250 as each base had different HDD compatibility.

I have no .cfg files for GX, I always update manually and place the new .dol's in new folders. I've tried each boot.dol (249, 222, 250) 249 is the only one that seems to work when I plug it in AFTER the "waiting for HDD" text appears, and only about 10% of the time. Once I actually make it into the loader Wii games load and run fine. Gamecube games do not, but I'll save that troubleshooting for after I've gotten the loader itself working properly.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
Karma177 @ Karma177: @The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really...
