Turok 2: Seeds of Evil will release on the Switch next week

After releasing a remaster of 1997's Turok 1 earlier this year for the Nintendo Switch, Nightdive Studios is bringing the sequel to the eShop later next week. On August 9th, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil will be available digitally for £15.79, bringing back the nostalgia from the original game, which released over 20 years ago for the Nintendo 64. This will be the same version of the game that released on Steam and Xbox One, back in early 2018.

This is great news. Now, for that price you could expect the all trilogy.

I'll wait for a discount... if i'm strong enought.

Then make fucking it yourself and quit bitching.
Mate i did a better retexture pack for pj64 so jog on!
That there is a remaster.

For the rest of the idiots that cant tell the difference.

When microsoft re did perfect dark, that was a remaster, they not only took the original game, higher resolution and frames, they completely remade all the textures.

Making no change to the actual game itself thus if they did would have been a remake, like resident evil rebirth, tho it is lossely based on its original ps1 version, its story had been changed, gameplay, textures.

I cant beleive how people seem to act so educatwd yet miss the point completely.

Except it's not just a port over with slightly less jaggies? You're clearly not an expert, let alone educated on this matter. "I did a better retexture pack!!one1!" That's not hard to do. Did you enhance the broken controls? What about the fog and view distance? Did you up the res on the models? No, you didn't. The game is still the same, but that's kind of the point. Also, you think MS redid all the models and textures by hand in PD? Boy, do I have some prime real estate I'd like to sell you.

PJ64? Sorry, I use Mupen64 Plus with GlideN64, it has better compatibility than PJ64. But yeah, no one's making you buy it, so drop it already. Also calling everyone idiots for not telling the difference? Wow, how mature are you? If you can't prove a point without using insults, you can just shut your fucking gob.

Phh we get this shit do we.

Its a direct port of the same game that looks better on better hardware.

No wonder the gaming industry is going to shit with kids these days that blindly throw money at devs thinking theyre getting something more.

Its sad

Im not saying you have to buy it, hut dont fool yourselves into thinking its a remaster just because they tell you so.

Turok 2 will be identical, no texture improvement, run it side by side with an n64 emulator and see how identical they are.

Thus no remaster just anothet emulated port on better hardware.

Just because you emulate majoras mask and it looks better, does not make it a remaster!

Remastered, sorry but turok was practically identical to the n64, i ran the rom via retro and the game and both looked the same.

Hate when people call a game remaster just because it looks visually better on better hardware.
are you kidding? the first game lets your reduce the fog, have higher quality texture filtering, better lighting, etc.

the switch version had it toned down because of its weak hardware.

Since when were remasters pretty much every single game on a Nintendo device. We never saw this on the 3DS or even the Wii U (but then again the Wii U was a failure).

Having never played Turok 2 I'm very excited to give a try. Especially because dinosaurs are a long-forgotten enemy to the FPS genre, I can't wait to revisit an old classic that I've never had the chance to play.

I think you need to fire up your N64 and do a comparison.

The unfortunate truth.

Okay, with Turok 2 coming and Doom 64 rumored, is it safe to say that there's an in-house N64 emulator/wrapper floating around that we could possibly inject N64 roms into in the near future??

Turok 1 and now 2 are not 64 emulated. They are ports of the Steam version

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
