Hacking Trying to run Smash Stack on vWii but it freezes when displaying the Stages on the SD card

first, do not insert your hacks into your sd card.
2nd, delete or move the three default custom stages. do not left anything on it! let the game read no custom stages on the console.
3rd, put back your hacks to your sd card, plug it in then go to custom stage again. This should brought you to the homebrew channel instalation.

What the guys said. Make sure you're using a regular SD card, not an SDHC one. Regular SDs are 2GB or less.
And delete the custom stages. I've hacked 3 different Wii U systems (with PAL copies of the game), and it has always worked.
