Download the one I linked you to. It's fully functional right away just by unzipping it somewhere, there isn't a setup executable.

At least it's functional on PC, seems to be having a problem on actual NXEngine and just crashes while trying to load a certain file. I'll see if I can get it to work...

I can get it to work using fmkid's solution above (to use the doukutsu.exe from the english release.) The doukutsu.exe of the french version crashes NXEngine at trying to load a certain Stage file that doesn't actually exist, for some reason.
Everything loads as normal, NXEngine appears to tell me it's gonna start up, and then suddenly, "copen data/Stage/.pxm" everywhere and the whole 3DS hangs.

Works with the doukutsu.exe from the English version, but accented characters don't seem to be supported in NXEngine. :/

Still playable, but yeah the no accented characters thing is a bit annoying.
Might be possible to go back over all the text in the game and replace the accented characters with regular ones, though. That, or ask the RetroArch people if they can add support for accented characters :P

Yeah, I thought in the same thing at the moment of get the error... But, personally IDK how to replace the accented characters: first thing I tried to do was searching for some understandable text onto resources/data files using HxD program and nothing (yep, I know that sounds/seems like a very noob way to proceed, but... :P)!

Well, it worked fine for me.
Using the right button to jump, right? (Punintended)

I think it should be Y or B by default.

The Cave Story website has a few tools available for download that can edit scripts. Given a few hours, it should be possible to replace all the accented characters with regular ones (also includes œ and ç, I've noticed.)

I could probably do it, when I have a few hours at some point where I have nothing else I want to do.

What if you hold the jump button as you jump?

I playtested this myself yesterday, so it -should- work.
Unless of course, there's some kind of glitch with your version or RetroArch NXEngine. I have the Nov. 8th nightly.

Thanks for the advice! And, yes, apparently I found some tools for that... I'll check on it and see what happens (but, only for the spanish version)! :yay:
