Fair enough. But wouldn't the extra power of the New 3DS address this?
Well, considering Virtual Console is SUPPOSED to be for, you know, EVERY Nintendo 3DS and because New 3DS systems are only a small margin in comparison to those who still own Old 3DS models... I can see why they didn't with the hardware they had.
Also:
Alternately, couldn't they shut off some 3DS OS features, the way they did with Super Smash Bros.?
That only frees memory, from what I recall: The extended memory mode as I personally call it. It doesn't really add much in terms of processing power so... yeah.
I'm sorry. I just feel like Nintendo isn't giving their all with Virtual Console on the 3DS. I have to believe that Nintendo could have given us more games and better features. Instead, it's been a slow drip, with a small assortment of titles from archaic systems like the original Game Boy and NES. It's disappointing at best, and insulting at worst.
Theoretically, they COULD, but it would be equally as hard to emulate those consoles without having to retool each version of the VC emulator for each game (Sort of like the Wii's N64 VC emulator), and it would be far too much work for such old games instead of simply slapping the more popular older system's games into the template emulator of choice and uploading them to the eShop. And it would be an extra thing less that would be exclusive to the Wii U, so it could impact that system's marketing slightly. Just look at how Retroarch is handling SNES no matter what the emulator/platform/version combination, it's struggling on a specific few amount of key titles. (Granted this is an Alpha and thus unoptimized really, but still, that wasn't the point of Libretro to begin with...)
MAYBE things will change with the new DBZ Butouden game(?) coming with a copy of Super Butouden 2, and display how effeciently companies can make official SNES emulation on the 3DS, but I don't think this will convince Ninty to make this the norm...
(And this is only assuming that bundled DBZ game is actually coming to America in a similar manner)
However, of course, this is me and my tin-foil hat theories, so take it however you wish.
