So I had a rather rude awakening this morning, there is a new update to CTGP-7 with the express purpose of removing every trace of my contribution to it.

The newest announcement, briefly:
Recently, a CTGP-7 contrubutor has been involved in some conduct that has totally broken our trust on them, even after telling them to not cross the line. As a result, I have decided to remove all their contributions from the mod.
To be fully transparent about the conduct, it involves breaking the mod anticheat and publishing a working user-friendly method to do it, just to show they can, without any specific malicious intention other than being completely irresponsible.
This is in reference to some new mods (Sysplugins) I have released for the 3DS, namely the uncapped Play Coins mod and others like Live Home Menu (video preview) that I have been working on recently. As these require using an alternative to Luma3DS, I released a closed-source CTGP-7 compatibility plugin, and that is causing the trouble here.

As I have learned, its not about the result, but the method. To be clear this does NOT allow people to cheat, or even make cheating become easier. It DID however, hook CTGP-7 to modify anticheat related code. There are other ways to establish compatibility and I could have reached out to PabloMK7 beforehand to see what could be done, and that is my mistake.

For the record, PabloMK7 had asked me not to distribute my custom boot.firm (with an embedded Mii outfit switcher mod for CTGP-7) back in February. Due to this, and the realization that Luma3DS' license requires distributed forks to remain open-source, I did not. No mention of this since.
What I released now was not a fork, not open-source, and DEFINITELY not to allow cheaters of any kind.

The intent here was never about showing off more so than it was just about me doing what I do, I love modding and making cool things, and without forcing a downgrade to user experience.
I have many more projects to come in the form of these 'Sysplugins', and a big concern for me was how users may decide that moving away from Luma3DS is too much of a hassle because that's the one CTGP-7 deems as the correct CFW.

Nintendo isn't fond of custom firmware, or CTGP-7 'messing' with their work, and yet, PabloMK7 mods the game to provide new enjoyment. That is the effect of what I did here.

The new update is simple:

Anything I worked on is removed, credits alongside them.
Actually, some contributions remain, I apparently never worked on Face Raider now.
I was never too fussed about credits anyway, I am just happy to see people enjoy my creations.

So what now?

I have since talked to PabloMK7, and he says there is nothing to be done. The characters are removed, and that is that, even if I were to delete my compatibility sysplugin. Which doesn't exactly inspire me to just do whatever he wants now.

There are sides to this, and it is what it is.

Skip the drama, I want the characters back!

I disagree with you and totally support CTGP team in removal of any material IF the contributing member cant follow the teams rules.

i disagree again and i think you are the one making a drama. Just deal with the fact that others do not agree with your actions and move on.

No need for this attitude lol. I'm very simply explaining my side because it was otherwise a little misrepresented and gave people a very different idea of my actions and intentions. You don't have to "side" with me but lets not be disingenuous.

I don't really get what the fuss is about with crazy anticheat for CTGP mods (CTGP-R is notoriously strict with anticheat and anti-piracy).
Realistically anyone who really wants to cheat can usually find a way around it, it's kinda annoying that you're forced to keep updating to the newest main Luma fork to use ctgp-7

Good luck with ur future stuff, it's a shame to get booted from something you care a lot about

I just don´t like people who think they can do whatever they want and expect no repercussions .

AFAIK the CTGP-7 asked you to stop releasing easy cheat mods your code and you just strait up ignored them, so here we are.

Also i hate cheaters. Games are supposed to be fun for everyone, not just for lame ass f*cktard cheaters.

Edit: i now realize that you did not release any mods, just code that can be used to facilitate bypass of the anti-cheat measures.

I hate cheaters too. If that is confusing you might want to read my post again.

Well, he didn't released easy cheat mods.

OP corrected the wording I was pointing out.

Well here's the problem.

Well at least, now you know why PabloMK7 decided to remove your contribution.

I am not saying you cheated, but i also can see how your code can facilitate others to bypass the anti-cheat mechanisms, especially with all LLM/DL coding help out there.
Post automatically merged:

Yes i am aware and edited that part with a note.

You should not need to ask for the permission of some project to release a generic plugin loader. Very cool concept, and the presentation is very well put together.

Stay far away from any homebrew community obsessed over implementing anticheat/obfuscation/DRM. Haven't seen a single one that isn't absolutely insufferable.

Ok, I don't see why remove character mods that have nothing to do with the supposed cheating tool.

It is ultimately only hurting people that like to use these characters, Sonic n Funky are very popular characters.

Like, just say "we will not accept new mod contributions from Blurro in the future", much better resolution to the whole ordeal if you are that concerned.

Also, if you somehow think there is "malicious code" or something hidden in the character files, well

First off

-You probably have a really wild imagination...

And second

-Idk man, look into it first before axing the characters completely???

I'm not surprised, Pablo hates a fork of his own open source software AzaharPlus.

I'm not going to kiss anyone's ass. Pablo is in the wrong here:
  • Removing things out of spite does not accomplish anything but make things worse for your users.
  • Getting this mad that someone else modified your program, especially when it is a mod of something else proprietary, and in a community that thrives entirely off of Free Software, is hypocritical and selfish.
I know you want to stay on good terms, but from reading this I have no reason to trust his maintainership anymore.

Doubly this.

Any engineer worth respect knows that client-side anti-tamper measures are futile and are bad cybersecurity. And anti-tampering is directly antithetical to homebrew and the morals it was built upon.

Btw @Blurro, i still appreciate your affords and contribution to the homebrew scene, and for that i thank you. I just don´t agree with you in this situation.
I got the impression you dont know how to work with a team that has their own way of doing things, and in the future, if you to work with others, you need to respect the way the project creators do things in order to participate in those projects.
This is the way civilized people work with each other.

I hope you continue to contribute to the scene.

Pablo genuinely fell off when his true nature was revealed when AzaharPlus launched.
