4A Games has announced that both Metro Redux and Metro Last Light are getting free "next-gen" upgrades later this month.
4A Games says the Metro franchise has hit 50 million sales worldwide, and the Metro Redux Next-Gen Update is a thank you to all players for supporting the series.
"As a huge thank you to our players, we’re announcing that a free update is coming for all owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux that makes several improvements and enhancements for modern hardware."
The developer stresses that the update is "not a full remaster or remake" and that it preserves the original Metro Redux aesthetic. However, you can expect carefully made, meaningful improvements to both games to "take advantage of the latest PC and console hardware."
With the update, all platforms will include support for 4K textures, improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio, and richer environmental detail to bring greater depth, immersion, and atmosphere to the world of Metro. You can also expect a bunch of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
The Next-Gen Update(s) rolls out on October 22 and October 29.
