It does? I always heard that DS flashcarts didn't work in emunand, just due to the way emunand runs. Interesting!

If it worked on before (likely with the help of bluecardfix or flashcardtimewarp), it will work on 10.4 but DS flashcarts only work in sysnand. *Do not update your sysnand*

This is a misconception. DS Carts (including flashcarts) force the system to soft-reboot, which results in the twl_firm being loaded from sysnand rather than emunand. That said, with every cfw EXCEPT rxTools they will launch from emunand just fine.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

For rxTools they work on emuNAND. At least my DSTwo (the old) works perfectly.
Which version of rxTools? DS cart loading was broken on the nightlies for a long time. I thought it still was.

The rxTools file I downloaded has this name: rxTools_2015-12-05_08.48-a08cfdd

I thought it wouldn't work, but I gave it a try and it's OK.

Ah so it's an old nightly. That was probably the last time it worked. Nearest I can tell, somewhere in the process of enabling region-free they broke twl/agb_firm loading. Personally I think this is stupid. No extra program can allow me to load a ds cart when the cfw breaks it, but I have THREE tools for accessing out of region games when the CFW doesn't do so natively

Interesting! Thanks for clearing that up!

So, I can install bluecardfix or the other app on my reinand on NEW 3DS XL 10.4 emunand and see if my R4 works?. Are there any risks?

Basically in order to play a DS cart or DSiWare game the system has to load twl_firm (and to play a gba game it has to load agb_firm), and the process for loading the twl_firm (or agb_firm) involves a soft-reboot. It will soft-reboot again on exiting the game to load native_firm back up.

Do not use bluecardfix anymore. Use flashcardtimewarp. Bluecardfix is just a v0 copy and the system will recognize it is out of date and prompt for an update.

Alright I'm trying to wrap my head around this.
So when I launch my R4i card on emunand its actually launching from sysnand? But I have my rxtools set to launch automatically when turning on my 3DS does that effect it?
Sorry if I sound really dumb >.< I'm new to all this.

Yeah, I just tested my European Skylanders and I have to access the homebrew launcher to play it.

I only saw O3DS support in that link, can you quote N3DS support?

Here we go! EUR JPN and USA 10.4 added + auto exit. :D
n3ds... but seems to work on o3ds too (at least for me, EUR).

Also, I can vouch for it, his build worked on my US n3DS (doesn't always boot first try, but such is the nature of NTR).

Will edit first post again. Thanks for the quick confirmation!

You might also want to rename this thread to something like "The State of emuNAND (including Gateway), Homebrew, and Sky3DS on 10.4" or something like that as more information develops. Can always report your first/original post to ask for a name change.

Thanks for the suggestion. When the thread was made, it was much smaller and most CFW results hadn't been reported at all yet, neither good nor bad, so I went with what I had. I'll definitely do that though, thanks!

Done! I went with your title suggestion, good call.

Might want to edit the NTR link in OP to the link i posted above so it's easy to find :)

@K3Nv2 He was looking into consoles for his house anyway (for my younger siblings and himself) and I had a spare XSX and Switch I ended up selling him at pretty steep cuts. I would just give them to him, but I did buy them with the intent to sell them... and college is super expensive.
