Hey all, posting this as much to document this for others to see as much as to try and get help. I have looked everywhere I can think of and have not found anyone experiencing the same behaviours as this Switch.

I am suspecting a hardware failure with one of the chips but have not completely ruled out a bad firmware update. I am currently doing a backup of the NAND before I try touching the firmware (if I can).

Anyway, the story with this Switch is:

I purchased this Switch broken and was told that it was working fine until it was sold and then it was returned because it kept freezing and showing a blue screen. The seller said that it was working when they tested it and could not get it to freeze or blue screen while they played on it. This could be true or a lie, I have no idea.

I turned it on and it froze almost immediately in the main menu. I hard reset it and got a blue screen. It then blue screened whenever I hard reset unless you leave it off for awhile. Then you can boot it back up normally. It sometimes stays on the main menu for 5min before freezing again, sometimes does not. Then you are back to blue screen on reboot.

I have taken it apart and put the main board into another switch I had that was bricked after I updated it to 6.2. The Switch behaved exactly the same so that rules out all hardware except the main board.

I was able to boot it into recovery mode but after bricking a previous Switch whilst updating the firmware, I decided to do a NAND backup first. It booted to Hekate no problem. However, during the backup Emmc Sys, I plugged the charger in and it caused an error. Said something about the info did not match the SD card, and froze. I have noticed that plugging the charger in has seemed to cause the freeze but then it does freeze within 5min anyway whilst on the home menu even doing nothing.

Now when I try to boot it up, it shows the Nintendo logo then nothing after it and I have not been able to get back to the main Switch menu at all since the Hekate crash. I have managed to boot back into Hekate and I am now finishing the NAND backup before trying anything else.

As I said, I am posting this as much to document this fault as I am asking for help. If anyone has anything they want me to try then feel free to post. Whether it be to experiment or if you genuinely think it might work. As far as I am concerned at the moment, all information about Switch faults and unusual behaviour and errors is good info.

Once the NAND backup has finished, I might leave it running Hekate for a few hours to see if it freezes or not.

Additional Info:

The Switch does charge whilst turned off.
Have used original charger and that can cause the freeze also, whilst on home menu.
I have docked it and it worked, until freeze.
Firmware was 6.2 when it arrived.

*Update* So the NAND backup finished. I am able to boot into the SX OS menu no problem and I get no freezing or locking up when plugging in a charger or just leaving it. The Switch still black screens after the Nintendo logo when trying to boot normally. When trying to boot into CFW I just get black screen straight away.

I am by no means an expert when it comes to CFW or the homebrew scene. But, to me this feels like the firmware is the issue and I somehow need to reinstall the firmware? I know this can be done if I could actually boot to the homebrew menu. Maybe I am wrong? Does this still count as a brick with no way around?

My money is on BQ24193 / bent joycon rail pin / loose SD card reader / Worn / bent / badly soldered USB port - does it still freeze if no SD is present?

Yeah it was freezing before I put an SD card in. Not sure what else I can try now except restoring the NAND from the backup I got and see if I at least get back to it booting to main menu.

Update, still not given up just yet.

Was going to use this guide to see if it would at least get the Switch booting to the home menu again. https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...unofficially-without-burning-any-fuses.507461

Got the same error as this guy whilst getting the BISkeys: https://gbatemp.net/threads/having-trouble-using-biskeydump-and-atmospherefuse.524902/#post-8461446

Carried on anyway and got as far as using ChoiDujour. Created a keys.txt for 6.2 but then got the following error:
No index on server for NX-6.2.0_exfat. This firmware is not supported(yet?)

Will continue researching and looking tomorrow when I am not so tired (joys of parenthood) but my feeling right now is I may be waiting until 6.2 is supported. Or I need to rename something to match the server it was checking.

First off, save prodinfo. Then save it again. email it to yourself. Your console is scrap without it.

Do a (shell version) choidujour to 6.1 firmware. Then once you have managed to boot into 6.1, update with choidujourNX. Bear in mind, fuse check will be incorrect so you will be stuck with autoRCM until you update to 6.2

Hey thanks for the suggestions. I will give that a try tomorrow. Cheers.

These are all my backup files from the Switch. Before I no doubt make it worse, I am not missing anything else I could backup before going for the 6.1 downgrade?

No you are good. Everything else can be recreated apart from prodinfo which has all your certs

Well here is the update.

So I followed the downgrade guide as far as getting to Etchers. It took a couple of attempts to get the Switch to appear in device manager as it should, but then it did not show up in etchers. I looked at Hex Workshop too and it did not show. I tried again and it showed in device manager as a yellow ! so I uninstalled as the guide said, scanned for devices and it locked up my PC. After reboot, when trying to select boot0 in memloader I get an error saying "error during lzma decompression." Something about returned value is 0 and not what it should be.

I decided to try restoring the NAND from the backup but have now noticed I can no longer boot into Hekate (I couldn't before this but thought I was just stick on the blue screen bootloop again and just needed to leave it off for a while as I have not even seen the Nintendo logo today, just blue.) I am now sat with the battery unplugged to see if I can get the Nintendo logo still and then maybe Hekate, if not then I think it is game over for this one.

Oh, just for info, I have tried booting into Hekate with Tegragui and also SX dongle, but I don't even get too the SX boot menu anymore, which I did yesterday.

Will update in 10min when I plug this battery back in.

Battery back in, Nintendo logo is showing again and I am back into Hekate. That is it for tonight. Unless someone tells me otherwise, I will go for a NAND restore tomorrow along with boot0 and boot1.

I used to be in Notts lol. Up north now. I will try the NAND restore tomorrow and see where I am at. I don't see what other option there is at this stage. But at least I am learning as I am experimenting. I will get my money back in spare parts if nothing else so I am not concerned if it stays dead.

Enjoy your evening friend and thanks for the suggestions.

No need for it to stay dead. Can be fixed. Let me know.

Enjoy your evening too!

Are you that sure it can be saved? If the restore gets me no further then I will take your offer. I would atleast like to know if it is a hardware fault or not. Cheers.

Well... I think so.
Haven`t been beaten by one yet. (Touch-bloody-wood)
72/72 (repairs) at the moment :)

Now I`ve said that, I`ll set fire to one or something knowing my luck. Think I`ve just broken my lucky streak.

I seem to be at an impasse now. I got back to the point where Etcher was ready to flash boot0 but when I clicked start it again locked my PC up and I had to reset. All was fine after that. Could still get into Memloader but instead I tried Hex Workshop to restore boot0. It seemed to do something but not sure.

Now the Switch is booting autoRCM and I am just getting the Memloader error now and can not load Hekate.

So, if you want to risk your streak, your welcome to try friend.

You seem to be enjoying yourself anyway. Let's hope it has a positive result at the end lol.
