Hi guys,

I am wondering if it is possible to write to the Memory card slot B, and what is the speed?
If we can make some sort of USB loader that can read the image from a USB drive, copy to SD Gecko & launch it... but I guess the ~1.5GB image to copy would take some minutes

but can it be done, theoretically?

What are the chances of loading off of a USB disk from a USB Gecko? Or is it not possible for the USB Gecko to function as a USB host?
It's technically possible, but it isn't programmed yet. I think it has been brought up in this thread, so if you search through this thread (the 'enter keyword' on the bottom right of the last post) for something like 'USB gecko', you'll probably find it. Either way, PERHAPS it will be a future feature of swiss.

@gualala: you can already use wiixplorer to copy-paste things onto the SD-card in your SD gecko. But there are two catches:
1. the one you already mentioned: the speed. wiixplorer isn't the fastest explorer, so 'some minutes' are certainly expected (and of course, there needs to be enough place on the disk)
2. the images on the SD card need to be unfragmented. I'm not sure to which degree it is required, but lots of copy-paste jobs like a "USB gc loader" would do would seriously fragment the files all over the place (I had to defragment my SD card just yesterday...it took almost an hour, as the reading/writing of sectors on a FAT32 SD card isn't the fastest ever).

(@wiibricker: if you're still reading this...would you mind adding these links to the first post? it would probably save at least a dozen similar questions of peeps who don't read this thread because it's too long)

Added a FAQ in the first post

Question. So, if the Swiss can load games from an SD, it is possible to play games with a dead laser?
I dont think so. You have to at least insert one legit gc disc for swiss to function. If your laser is dead, there's no way a disc can be verified.

Swiss is gamecube homebrew, so you need a way to start it. Since I don't know the procedure for gamecubes (don't have one myself), but on a wii, it suffices to run Wiipower's swiss loader. That restarts the wii in gamecube mode and automatically loads swiss.

The disc in the drive is (currently still) needed to verify that the lid of the 'gamecube' is closed, and serves no purpose whatsoever (I think it's one of the safety checks that the gamecube has). I think the removal of this unwanted feature is still in beta (for now, it just asks if the motor can be stopped), but if you already have an SD gecko, it's certainly worth to try if it works.
