I said earlier in another thread that I think the title of "for 3DS" or "for Wii U" is a bit goofy. Wouldn't surprise me if this becomes another naming debacle like the Wii vs. Wii U. They should've just stuck with a title like Kerfuffle or something.

Cover looks fine though, they always do.

I'm glad they didn't just slap ''U'' behind the Wii U version of the game, because I think ''U'' sounds retarded and isn't very creative (not that ''for Wii U'' is much better, mind you). NSMB U, ZombiU, et cetera all sound stupid, almost as bad as Apple (and copycats) slapping ''i'' infront of all of their product names.

Anyway, I think the covers look great :D I am very excited indeed.

You do have a point, though there must be a clear way to distinguish the two versions and I think the current naming (if final) is goofy like Guild said.

Now that I think about it, "Super Smash Bros. 4" would be very good for the Wii U version. Problem is, what's to become of the 3DS version? "Super Smash Bros. 3D"? Nah.

I'm also hoping Nintendo doesn't do a Sega like with Sonic Boom. Did the two games really, really need separate titles?

I don't really like the "For Nintendo 3DS / Wii U" font, it looks too plain and doesn't fit in with the rest. "Brawl" was in a much more fitting font, and I agree with mariofanatic64 that the Brawl boxart looks the best overall.
This looks pretty cool too, though.

The game on the other hand I was rather disappointed with. It seems very graphically similar to Brawl, when they could have done so much more.

I'm hopeful the game mechanics are closer to Melee. If the GameCube controller option is any indication, this new iteration could be great. I don't care what Sakurai says. I'll listen when hardcore fans have the game in their hands and discover techniques like L-canceling and other interesting stuff regarding hitboxes, invincibility frames, etc. Can't wait for the technical run down. Only then will I make a decision to buy the game, because I honestly don't have time for another Brawl. Much rather play Guilty Gear ;)

IMO "techniques" like L-canceling that are basically required, no matter the character, stage or situation and have no backdraw whatsoever may as well be taken out. They add nothing to the game but artificial complexity.

"For Nintendo 3DS" and "For WiiU" looks so bad. They really shouldn't add that.. The boxes are completely different and state the console on the side and top respectively

They're glitches and exploits in a casual brawler that people exploited in an effort to shit on everyone's fun in a casual brawler.

SSB is one of the most fun party games around, but boiling everything out of it and making it "competitive" is the complete opposite of fun. If I wanted competitive I'd play Street Fighter.

That's actually the reason why I love Melee so much. Playing with my friends, 4 players at once, it's super fun. But then when I play alone I like to take the single player option at the highest difficulty and it's either getting knocked down by the CPU or using everything in your arsenal to beat them--that's where things can get very technical, if you like.

Unlike Street Fighter / King of Fighters / Capcom Vs. / Tekken / Guilty Gear / BlazBlue / Dengenki Bunko / etc. where the game is always technical and never casual, SSB has (through glitches/bugs/exploits) the ability to be one of either. And that's impressive for a fighter.

Dude, L-canceling was definitely intentional. Wave dashing was accidental, but Sakurai left it in because he didn't think it would affect the game much (little did he know).

Seriously, you talk so much shit about the competitive aspect of Smash while being so uneducated about it. I suggest you learn a little about it before brushing it off as being a result of exploits and glitches. There's a reason that Melee is one of the biggest tournament fighters ever (I don't remember the source or specifics on that though, so cmiiw).

These covers are straight up from Amazon, and they also have other Wii U upcoming games with complete covers too. They're very likely to be the final artworks.

That's not true at all. Making a game with competitive players in mind doesn't take away from the casual experience. If you're talking about high level players vs low level players, that's something else.

Also as a side note before this thread gets derailed; L-Canceling was an intended feature, it was documented on the original smash dojo for Smash 64. As for wavedashing, it was an unintended side effect of the air dodging mechanic that Sakurai noticed during development of Melee but left as is because he thought it was worthless. Competitive players liked Melee for all of its speed and bountiful amount of movement options, wavedashing included.

For Smash 4, wavedashing isn't coming back but I really don't give a shit. L-Canceling would be nice but it won't kill it. The game looks a lot faster than Brawl and just looks fun to play, I'm definitely getting both versions of this game.

I enjoyed all the Smash Bros games, but I agree, I hope it's more competitive than Brawl was. That doesn't neccessarily mean they have to bring back techniques that were possible in Melee, just that there are new ones to discover.
I would prefer if it's not too similar to any of the existing games though, so that it actually feels like a new game as well as giving everyone a clean slate.

I'm getting both versions on (or before) release day anyway, so I can play it on the go and with friends when I'm not at home, but play the console version when I'm at home and/or have visitors. I'm a long way off from fighting competitively, but that doesn't mean I can't have a lot of fun with it.

I don't think glitches are necessarily bad in fighting games (the combo system in Street Fighter 2 resulted from a glitch and look at how prominent combos are now) but I haven't actually played Melee, so I can't say whether that applies here.

The titles could use some work, though it probably isn't a big deal.
