I want this game... but I don't have a WiiU

How do you know? Iwata was quoted as saying that 3D was possible, but that it wasn't a focus. So maybe that added in 3D, and just aren't telling anyone about it until last minute. If Nintendo want's to actually be considered next-gen, they need 3D. I don't want to buy a 3D TV if the only thing I can watch on it in 3D is overpriced BluRays.

Television's already display output in 3 dimensions. If they didn't, then you would be stuck playing side scrolling games and watching side scrolling movies. Can anyone describe to me what watching The Avengers as a side scroller would look like?

I also noticed that the Bullet Bills in the top right have cat ears and a tail, as does a goomba more near the center. I wonder if you'll be able to get a cat suit from them, or if they're just having fun with the theme.

The goofy little things like the cannon and the ice skate made me giddy for this.

How many times have I gotten the boot in smb3, cherished it, then cried when I lost it. I can already see similar emotions with the ice skate.

Interesting trailer, shows that this will be more similar to Super Mario Galaxy than I expected (eg. not as linear as SM3DL) and it has similar looking graphics at certain points.

Not that it really matters right now if it has an update or not. There hasn't been any word on that front for months.
