If they don't want to update this thing anymore, why not just OPENSOURCE the damn code and let others fix this for free?!
It sucks that open source chips work better than an expensive chip like Wiikey.
And not everyone here is willing to open their wii, resolder a new modchip and throw away their paid Wiikey.

Wiikey Team: If you don't want to update you chip because you don't win any money with it, just release the damn CODE!

guys, I guess we'll have to wait until someone releases a dvd5 version of the game. then, we'll just have to boot it, then swap with the original. that's not as good as having an update, but in the meantime, that could be handy

i seriously don't understand the big deal with not being able to play an orginal DL disc on the Wii given it'll cost no more to buy a DL burner than to buy an orginal copy of a new game, why did you get it chipped in the first place?

Please don't tell me there's actually people who chipped their Wii to enable them to play orginal gamecube imports?!

i'm considering buying the legit game from america and using the freeloader that is coming out so i don't get the dual channels, only problem is the legit game doesn't work with the wiikey does it? and knowing the wiikeys history i don't expect a fix anytime soon i'm guessing, i don't want to waste money buying dual layers as all i will probably get is coasters (dual layers are not cheap in europe) so i am just going to buy the legit game and save me the hassle.

you can get a vertb DL disc for as little as £1.50 each!! why bother with all this hassle and expense of a freeloader?

Build this programmer: http://chiip.descrambler.de/index.php/Programmer

And reprogram youw Wiikey with a PC. ( http://www.m-p.demon.nl/WiiKey_programmer.jpg )

Quite easy really, I switched from OpenWii to Wiikey a long time ago and am going to switch back this week.

So how is OpenWii better than wiikey...?

OpenWii has the same functionality as YAOSM, seeing as Bell wrote the last update.

Maybe because DVD-DL support is not stellar.
Some drives need pot adjustment and stuff like that.
Some guys would love to be able to run a original DVD-DL game like SSBB, but with Wiikey it is impossible...
It is clear that Wiikey team dropped support for their chip.
Why don't they open source the code is beyond me.
If they don't want to give support because they don't earn money with it, then LET OTHERS DO THE JOB!
OPENSOURCE THE DAMN THING!

aren't you getting your knickers in a twist?

nothing's stopping you from buying an orginal copy (although the money is probably better spent by donating it to charity) you'll just have to use a backup copy.

How about you stop defending the Wiikey for not fixing such a blatant problem in their chip? It's laughable that you'd rather play backups which degrade the laser as it is than the legit, if I have it.

im sorry but has anyone even CONFIRMed that this really happens? i am sure that dvd drive inside the wii is of the same quality as any dvd drive u can buy for ur computer and dont you dare say that using a DVD-R or whatever-+R degrades THOSE laser,,,

@sbygel

a copied copy of a game reflects....this reflect (especially form dual layer) makes you laser 'blind'. this also could happen if you burn to fast

I dont think there are more lazers dying from running backups... the only way i can see this happening is if the mod chip actually changes the resistance on the lazer making it work harder.

I dont know why Wii-Key is not open sourced right now. Especially if they are dropping support for it. Maybe they are working on an upgrade... Who knows... But it doesnt seem likely at this point.

You can always just install a switch on the wii-Key and shut it off when necessary.. I know its a bummer, but if that is the only option... So be it.
