Should I use Linux instead of Windows?

I'm using Windows 8.1 and I heard Linux is a lot better, and I saw that everyone here uses Linux, but i'm afraid of switching to Linux since i'm very used to Windows, and i have understood a lot of programs arent compatible with Linux and you have to write code to install the ones that are compatible

I sometimes use Windows 11 for work, and recently Microsoft don't even let you put the taskbar at the top!
There were some registry hacks for previous builds but they're not working anymore.
You can use ExplorerPatcher to force it but it's not 100% perfect.

Needless to say I don't use Windows on my personal machines.

You're misinterpreting. While I've indicated that imo Linux sucks, my main point has been that much of the criticisms of Windows 11 are either overblown, inaccurate, or not true at all.

So it's okay for people to say multiple times at how great Linux is? Or to say multiple times how much they think Windows sucks? It's okay for people to repeat things you agree with over, and over, and over? Again, it seems you're unable to comprehend that you're a hypocrite.

Personally I prefer Linux as I have more control over my hardware. Like custom fan speeds for my laptop, under-volting etc. Linux can be intimidating at first, but you'll learn to appreciate it.

Can't you do that on windows? My laptop has some intel software for that

Depends on your device, some manufacturers block the ability to do any of this. ex: Microsoft Surface Pro has locked down the firmware via Windows Update. (Can downgrade via Linux) Though I'm sure its doable with Windows, just requires a bit more work and likely needing to block specific updates so it doesn't revert back to stock.

Staying on Windows 7 and still using the internet, is that safe nowadays? I wouldn't know, as I've stopped using Windows some time ago, but that's an ancient OS there. I'm sure it's fine for offline, though.

Fair enough. I guess the reason I can't go back is because of drivers being not built for older versions and such. Although that makes me think what are some new drivers that could possibly work with Windows 7...

I saw and want to try out AtlasOS, but it doesn't have perfect compatibility with Windows 11 Home. Maybe Tiny11 would be something that I'd try out, but Idek how I'm supposed to effectively downgrade my Windows 11 version with that. I also don't know how to even get Tiny11.

I've found this to get Tiny11, but yeah, it wasn't as obvious as it should be. There are some ISOs floating around like this https://archive.org/details/tiny11-2311, but it's really not a great way to be sure it's the latest update.
It's pretty much the same for stuff like Windows xlite or ghost spectre. It's pretty hard to get and some of them have so many builds, not only it makes it hard to make a choice but to me, it's just proof that they aren't meant to be daily drivers (it's stated on Tiny11, could be cool for VMs actually ... I'll try this out)
In the case of ghost spectre, the links are on youtube which makes it even less clear. I've heard some good stuff about it, but I just don't see myself using this as a daily driver ... That's in part why I feel like the approach of AtlasOS and ReviOS is much more efficient for regular use

I've never used any of those ISOs, but I always assumed that you had to install them like any Windows ISO by burning them on a USB stick, I guess that would require a clean install so idk, probably not worth it if it's not a new computer in my opinion.

I stick with Windows because it's what I know, and all the programs I use work well on it. Switching to Linux can be scary, especially if you're not sure about compatibility or having to write code. You don't have to switch completely, though. You can try dual-booting or using the Windows Subsystem for Linux to test it out while still keeping Windows.

I'd try it in a VM like Virtualbox or VMware workstation (both free for non-commercial), for non-performance stuff/messing around it's one of the safest ways.

I did that a while ago and it either

1. Worked but way too slow
2. Didnt work at all
