I'm using Windows 8.1 and I heard Linux is a lot better, and I saw that everyone here uses Linux, but i'm afraid of switching to Linux since i'm very used to Windows, and i have understood a lot of programs arent compatible with Linux and you have to write code to install the ones that are compatible

I might ask my older brother if he can install Linux with dualboot when he comes to my house to update my PC (if he comes, that is)
That's not advisable. If either OS gets an update it screws up the bootloader and you wont be able to get into either OS without reinstalling GRUB.

With exception to my Steam Deck, I've never had this issue for regular updates and I dual boot on various systems.

That said, I would advise making a backup of your system with recovery media on standby before messing around with Linux on real hardware.

On a side note, I use refind as my main bootloader, but I would be weary of recommending it to someone unfamiliar with the ESP in case something goes wrong:

Yes if you're into programming. It's not for gaming
That’s not true anymore. Some titles that require invasive anticheat don’t work and are not likely to (in part due to developer ignorance, BUNGIE). However, there’s several thousand titles that work thanks to WINE and Proton. Linux native ports are also still happening.

"101,035 games are available on Steam as of June 2024"

So a handful work on Linux compared to Windows. Thanks for pointing that out.
Not the brightest bulb in the box, are you?

Bro, you crawl out of the 2010s? Linux Gaming has come a very long way, largely due to SteamOS, Proton, and Wine

Over-exaggeration. A long long way, sure, but with a long long way to still go. It's like people saying "Linux is gaining ground!!! Going to overtake Windows!!!" when it's still at what? A whole whopping 4%-6% market share after 30+ years. Sure, it gained some ground. But not even remotely close to catching up to Windows or being as compatible with gaming as Windows is.

Said nothing of the sort. It's just a fact that Linux gaming as indeed come a very long way. It's clear you don't use Linux, so I don't take your opinion seriously.

Your comments are more laughable compared to the entire thread. Surely you're not somebody to use Linux.

Do you have Stocks in Microsoft or something? You got a little to much of a hard on for defending Windows.
Hell I'm not even defending Linux as much as you defend the poor little unknown OS called Windows.

I think he's afraid if Linux gets attention Microsoft might lose its monopoly! Won't someone think of the monopoly?

If it's clear you need some glasses because I use Mint on my pos outdated laptop. Also pretty sure my Android devices are Linux based. It has it's purpose.

The shit you say sometimes is so incredibly fucking stupid. "Do you have stocks in Microsoft or something?" That's the same tired, lazy, lame ass shit everyone says when someone doesn't agree with something. "Do you have stock in (insert company/product name) ?!?!?!" If you're going to say stupid shit, at least try coming up with a tad of your own material otherwise, stfu, keep crying, and go jerk off on your latest Linux distro.

Linux has always had attention, although very little. You people been saying since day one how it's going to take over Windows. If it was so amazing for a FREE OS, it would have happened years ago. It's been 33 years. Yet people still paying for Windows over the free option with tons of distros to pick from.

I can't take much of what you say seriously either after your "I'm no longer a communist!!!" nonsense, as if you were ever actually a communist.

Some of you want to heap praises on Linux, but you don't want anyone with an opposing view to give their opinions. Try reading the title of the topic. It's a WIndows vs Linux topic. What about that is difficult to understand? Poor little lambs, Need a blanky and bottle? One of the reasons this place is such garbage. Everyone wants THEIR opinion heard, and that of those that agree with them. But you come in a thread with something different and a person can expect to see the shit I see here. I gave an opinion on gaming in which I didn't insult anyone whatsoever. What did I get? A personal attack with "Not the brightest bulb in the box, are you?" If I say something back,. then I'm the bad guy. Right? Fucking pathetic. Just like Linux. LOL!
Opposing opinions? Sarcastic and snide remarks aren’t “opinions” my guy. You’re just an anti-Linux shmuck who can’t get over the fact that people can use an OS you clearly can’t or won’t. Get over it and move on.

Oh, please. I'm not the one that started with the sarcastic and snide comments. I just returned then. People here don't like when you return the attitude, do they? Try to keep up you slow in the head fucking moron.
