Select PlayStation 2 games are coming to PlayStation 5

Sony is once more attempting to reintroduce players to their older library of games by re-releasing classic PlayStation 2 titles onto the PlayStation Store. During the PlayStation 4's run, there were a handful of PS2 classics made available, however, those games were criticized for running poorly, with inaccurate emulation on the PS4. Now, Sony has reportedly created a new emulator for PS2, and according to industry leakers, will offer video filters, quick save, and a rewind feature.

The first three titles will be Sly Cooper and the Thievus Reccoonus, Tomb Raider: Legend, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and are set to launch on June 11, for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. You'll also be able to purchase the titles separately for both PS4 and PS5 if you don't have PlayStation Plus.

Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts Covenant

Yeah right, two of the best games on PS2 that nobody played. They're not coming out again.

Ooooh, the X-Arcade Tankstick! I haven't thought about that for years. There was a time when I thought about buying a cabinet and fitting it with a dual X-Arcade stick. What a nice dream. Thanks for the #MemoryUnlock

Most likely, Square-Enix will default to porting over the HD versions of Final Fantasy X and X-2. No emulation that way.

I mean you could just play the PS4 version of FF X/FF X-2 HD on PS5 right now.

PS2 had one of the most amazing libraries (my personal favorite), but whatever this is won’t even scratch the surface. I don’t think they’ll release a single game I used to enjoy, much less one I’ve even played.

Sadly we’re stuck with emulation (still imperfect, requires a decent PC), begging for HD remasters or hunting down the original and hoping the hardware holds up.
My steam deck runs ps2 games flawlessly. I have maybe 30 of them loaded up.

I'd be more impressed, if they'd finally introduce PS2 emulation to PSX.
What do you mean? Are you saying you want to run ps2 games on the ps one?

Sadly I think PS3 is the console that won't be emulated on PS5 anytime soon.
PS1, PS2 are easy to emulate, and for PS4 there is backward compatibility.
PS2 is the harder one to emulate. PS3 actually has a good emulator RPCS3, while the PS2 emulator PCX2 is barely adequate, while being years older.

Ah, that's right, with PS4 backwards compatbility, the HD remasters can skip a gen. Square-Enix will re-release it on the PS6, I'm sure.

i got mine on ablack friday sale for $129 but that was pre-biden inflation. thats the best time to buy if u dont want to pay the regular price. ive got 4-5 other arcade sticks and xarade is by far the most durable.

the thing to keep in mind if u build an arcade is that when ur smashing the arcade stick ur usually moving the arcade if u play like me. on most builds of arcade cabinents the hard drives end up inside attached within the arcade stick and then you end up shaking it a bunch which can cause problems. or u end up having to stand or sit next to the arcade cabinent to play when u want. the xarcade stick for me ended up beating out a couple arcades i built that cost $1k+ to built. on the cheap though a odroid and a mini cabinent u can build one for about $300 but then u lose the ability to just change and adapter and ur off playing ur ps2 or xbox using the xacrade.

if u play alot of games it can definetly add some replay value to a library that needs dusting off if ur looking to go back and play some old games instead of buying a couple new games to play.

its also fun and alot easier to take over to a buddies house and just plug in to their ps4 or whatever console ur playing it on and having the ability to take it places without worrying about damage like u do when u make a mini cabinent.
Thanks for the rundown. I appreciate the Black Friday tip, since I usually don't count on these types of discounts.

I've considered a Raspberry Pi several times, but I know there are alternatives like the Odroid. If I remember correctly, the specs on the Odroid are a bit better, but it's a more expensive proposition. How well does Odroid work as a Raspberry Pi alternative?

Super unlikely to happen but hey, EA should bring out Most Wanted '05 again.

That was one of the launch titles for when PS2 games were bought out onto the PS3 digitally and was removed weeks later because of the licences, that along with Simpsons Arcade are two games i'm glad are on my PlayStation account.

Say what? I haven't had a single issue with PCSX2, in fact, it's absolutely awesome and games look like remasters with anti-blur, no-interlacing, higher internal resolution, 16xAF and widescreen patches. PS3 emulation on the other hand is very hit-and-miss and has massive issues with shader compilation stuttering (similar to Dolphin pre-UberShaders).

well the odroid is a little bit easier to setup because u dont have to piece together the heatsink etc like a raspi. back when odroid first came out was raspi3 and it beat it out easily. then the raspi 4 came out and it was comparrible. now with raspi 5 they have odroid edged out a little bit in performance. i own over 20different units that ive put together but the best was a image from a friend that was already put together. the odroids can be finicky with power and have sound glitching if u dont power them properly with the higher powered adapter because ur always powering an external hd most likely to have the space bigger than an sd card.

raspi or odroid either one that u can get a good presetup image i would recommend that first. both have decent communities and support. both have different os versions of bactoceria, emulationstation, etc to chose from. thats what can make it a pain.

nvidia shields are anice setup too with all the android apps for emulation up to ps2. a little bit easier than both raspi and odroid if u dont want to get too complicated but ur going to pay more for the shield and controllers.

The main thing I want Sony to bring to PS5 are a direct download for the Sly HD trilogy and the original 4 Silent Hill games. There are a few more niche titles I'd also like to see but if I could only pick a handful of games those would be the ones.

You may get that Silent Hill 1 remake after the second game, if SH2R sells. The problem I see is that Silent Hill 3 and 4 sold significantly less than the first two. On the other hand, if an SH1 remake were to sell big, Konami would go all in. Both MGS Delta and SH2R are poised to be remake gravy trains.

20 bucks for a crappy 480p version of Tomb Raider Legends will always be funny.
I paid like a dollar for the whole series from the first game to the 2013 Reboot on Humble Bundle a few years ago.

There's no way this is real.

The folks at Sony stopped the presses to say,
That tired PS2 titles were coming to stay,
Then a red-colored star,
and a vocal jar jar,
Became the friends we made along the way.
