Hacking rxTools, ReiNand and 11.3.0-36 firmware. Safe or not?

Are both old CFW safe with this latest update (EmuNand)?

I heard from somewhere that the update patched the 3DS's ability to run the homebrew launcher.

Anyone got a first-hand experience in this matter?

luma works, rxtools is dead, and I think that there is a patch for reinand.

Just use luma, it's actively developed and more sophisticated than rei and rxtools.

rxtools have been deprecated for a while, then even the official builds became deprecated. luma is the best trouble free cfw in my opinion.

RXTools uses the 9.5 NATIVE_FIRM. 11.3 added a NATIVE_FIRM requirement to the homemenu, locking out all CFWs using anything NATIVE_FIRM before 11.3. There is a new project that forked from RXTools, but there is no real public release yet for it.
As of right now: Luma 6.6 and Nightly works.

SaltFW has a nightly that works
CakesFW has a nightly that works.
ReiNAND is currently being worked on.
Luma3DS can run from MenuHAX, but it's honestly worth upgrading to A9LH. You can ditch the old emuNAND (regaining that space) and have far better protection of your CFW.

I guess I'm a traditionalist when it comes to 3DS: "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it" stuff. I have yet to consider upgrading to Luma3DS. I do hear many good things about it, though.

But given that I gifted my sibling my regular-sized old 3DS that runs on rxTools as well, I think he might find it troublesome not being to play online with Monster Hunter Generations with a dated EmuNAND firmware.

No, Just update to luma3ds and your emunand is fine.

Or update to a9lh+luma and your emunand will be on your sysnand.

Thanks for the help but I found a solution for Reinand, the Author posted a temp file for 5.1

btw Luma is great I installed it on my friend's 3DS but it's a lot of work and Reinand works for me

Rei just updated ReiNAND 9 days ago. It now supports an EmuNAND update to 11.3.

ReiNAND has actually updated to support 11.3, reboot patches are a little meh. But it does support 11.3 nonetheless.
Luma3DS is also not the only CFW

I share the exact same sentiment. It's far easier to update Reinand and update Emunand to 11.3 than to make a jump to Luma3DS and risk getting bricked. I've only had luck with rxTools a couple of times and once with Reinand.

Jumping to luma requires replacing one file, its not like you have to install a9l to use it.

Seriously what? Replace the launcher with one for another CFW and that CFW will load, there is nothing difficult about this.
