Haptics specialist ViviTouch will show a Wii U peripheral at the upcoming trade show.
This is a more effective way of producing Rumble tech and not for feeling screen textures with your fingers.

Saw this on /v/ last night. I can't say it's particularly useful, but seeing Reggie announce it would be fun

A peripheral? For rumble?
Sure, it's more advanced (the video that Midna posted is pretty cool), but I can't help but feel like it's the N64 controller all over again.

I think there was a copyright that Nintendo did where a possible name for the console was Nintendo Feel...would make sense for this thing.

I really hope we're not going to have a ton more of peripherals for the Wii Ui.

It's certainly is a possibility that we'll see a redesign at E3, Nintendo must differentiate the Wii U form the Wii in order to not confuse customers and win back lost fans, something that they've set up as their main goal with their new system.

A redesign could also mean a peripheral slot for the different "controller options" or having this already built in.
I'm saying controller options because I don't think that they will only be using the Utablet and old Wii controllers, it's most likely that we will see some kind of new wireless version of the classical controller for the Wii U, not everyone will have 3 Wiimotes and three Classical controllers lying around for multi player games, especially new consumers.

There must be something like that coming out for Wii U, I always hated how it needed to be plugged into the wiimote. In fact seeing they're still going with the wiimote+nunchuck for this as an alternative option for games as well as for the Wii backwards compatibility, they should finally do a wireless nunchuck.

It certainly looks neat, but seeing how it's a peripheral, I'm not sure how effectively it will be used.

If it was built into the controllers (which Microsoft and Sony could always go for, or Nintendo sometime in the future), though, I think there's some real potential there.

Tbh, I feel this isn't true... Even if it is, I didn't think I'll get it/want it as a peripheral.
It's just a more advanced rumble feature. It's not as if it's some far out there technology.

That's pretty cool, but it shows standard Rumble in an unfavourable position. Rumble can already be used in this fashion by controlling the electricity flow - a rumble motor can spin faster or slower, and this video shows it as if it only could be "spinning" or "stopped". I'm interested in the lower battery consumption though. The mechanism at work is fun too.

One's also hoping this won't end up like the DS rumble pack or the heap of accessories for the Wii (all different controllers (Mote, Mote+, Motion+, Nunchuk, Classic Controller/Pro, etc.) and all them possible controller holders (tennis racket, golf club, etc.). Keeping it nice and simple is the way to go for me.

ps. I've got about 8 controllers/parts for the Wii (for 2 player multiplayer) and only 2 controllers for the PS3 (actually 3 since the GH controller is it's own, but that would have been another one for the Wii also). I hope that the WiiU doesn't end up like that since I honestly may not have enough space for all the controllers in the future
