Thank you for your answer. This sounds like a hell of a job (haha).
Will dive into it and try to adjust things. You'll never score if you don't shoot ;-)
(Or is there an easier way by sharing some configs/builds?)

BTW: Is the multitap option available in the retroarch for the psx build? I couldn't find anything regarding this option.
in retroarch go to scan maual or scan a file will make playlist for you

Yeah not a big deal when you done it. Start incremental, begin update RA look what are the changes, and really just delete bezels directory, and switch to ozone if you want to, and you will start to play with :
RetroArch Playlist Editor and Online Retroarch Playlist Generator.
Nha charing config file don't make sense if you want to stay up to date ; ) I don't know for multitap, i'm not into it. Anyway your better chance is with Wiistation.

Yes but database don't match with crazymac build and high potential to mess the build (mismatch roms names and thumbnails names). In my case I like to have Arcade games before computer games and consoles games at the end, so I added those prefixes to playlists like : Arcade - MAME - 2003. Autoscan will alter playlists and my thumbnails will be out. Autoscan with database scan towards.... the database precisely, and it's stiff. Manual setup is for winners ;)

been scanning all my roms from # to z separate into 26 folders because Wii U crashes after scanning also doesn't scan all of the roms i finally got them scanned only few miss and don't crash. I'm creating my own playlist like crazymac but with file scanned and i see lot of junk not needed in crazymac ultimate with the thumbnails and bezels i see he put same shit in every platform he didn't downsize it. I'm taking it step by step little at a time building one myself

Why do you rebuild playlists ? Did you add some systems ?
Tools like Notepad++ are very useful with replace functionality for updating core and roms paths, and also core name, and db reference (playlist name).

Yesterday I wanted to play using my Switch pro controller, I used HiD to vpad and when I went to Retroarch settings I switched it to Wii U pro controller and I couldn’t do anything, had to force shut the Wii U then delete the config file just to be able to use RetroArch again.

I really hope this issue is resolved, if I accidentally choose a different controller option I cannot even navigating the menu anymore, maybe allow the gamepad to control the menu at all time or at the very least use the touch screen? This is pretty much a big issue as it requires a force shut down.

Also, is there any way to use the Switch pro controller or the duelshock 4 as player one in RetroArch? The gamepad isn’t very comfortable and the battery dies fast.

Can anybody verify whether RetroArch has touchscreen support on the Wii U currently?
I'm especially interested in DosBox Pure with a Win 3.x game and if touch controls can be used to simulate the mouse on the Wii U GamePad. That'd be pretty awesome imho.

Some Cores support TouchScreen.. ScummVM, Snes, Nes, Gens, Puae (UI only), Amstrad Core (Keyboard only), Mame (I think) but Dosbox doesn't iirc.
But doesbox Pure doesn't support Dynarec on WiiU so even if you got Win 3 to install it would likely run like ass :P so lack of Touch would be the least of your issues lol
I have made an issue on the RA git to add more TouchScreen support to WiiU but it was a while ago.

Use Bloopair of you want to use Switch Contorller on WiiU RA, it works perfectly for me.

But doesbox Pure doesn't support Dynarec on WiiU
Oh what a bummer. Also I just downloaded the latest Wii U release from the buildbot to look through the core list and DosBox Pure isn't even there.
So for Windows 3 games to be able to be played with the pen on the Wii U GamePad we need:
DosBox Pure core RPX build + Dynarec support + touchscreen support
Doesn't sound too promising. :/
However, the base DosBox (non-pure) core is there. Do you know if that one has Dynarec support? If so, I could try to push your issue a little for it to get touchscreen support. :P

Yea. It was in testing, since we couldnt get the dynarec working it was never released :/
you can see the branch here: https://github.com/schellingb/dosbox-pure/branches/stale

No Dosbox Core has dynarec support :/ the hope was to get it working on the pure core then then use that as the main Dosbox Core.
You can ask in the Retroarch discord to see if there's a chance of reviving the dynarec stuff but I dunno if it will happen, hopefully once Aroma is out dynarec will be easier to set up.

Pair the Switch or PS4 controller to the Wii U using (bloopair) then it will work on retroarch wirelessly, or download (hid config) from retroarch configure its path to be able to use the controls via usb.

(hidtovpad) it doesn't work with retrarch because retrarch accesses homebrew in the boot transition and (hidtovpad) closes when entering hidtovpad because of this.

for pairing ps4 controller on wiiu with bloopair launched, on menu synch controls press buttons share + ps until the light flashes quickly then let go

for pairing switch controller on wiiu with bloopair launched, on menu synch controls press a synch botton on switch

Just being curious, the RetroArch team is waiting to Aroma be complete to port the homebrew to Aroma? And how it impacts the cores, being in the Aroma Enviroment?

No, The Aroma port is being worked on by Quarky not the Retroarch guys, the port is more or less done I think, but work has stalled due to a couple bugs and Quarky taking a break for a bit, but once Quarky gets back to it the Aroma port will be released.

Once it releases we will be able to take advantage of the Plugin/Module system Aroma uses and use whatever updates the Toolchain has gained over those 10 years :P

While some cores need some polishing, many others do work. An unofficial release for aroma may be a good idea.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway

    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
