I rarely see people talking about the SNES emulators' performance. How are they compared to the New 3DS? I've seen a couple vids on Youtube but can't say I was very impressed, sound in particular was pretty choppy.

not sure if you are talking vc or homebrew emulators but vc runs almost perfect with some slowdowns here and there but it is 100% accurate but problems are they dim it to all hell and it can't be stretched to the full screen so I prefer using snes2005 on vita

The image quality is also top tier in the Vita. Specially on 2D titles that look gorgeous.

No, dynarec is already fully supported by HEHkaku. It's just that nobody seems to know how to implement it in their homebrew yet.

mGBA's lack of dynarec is different - mGBA itself doesn't feature dynarec yet, it's nothing to do with the Vita side.

Oh, i thought figuring out the final stage would help out in that department. Guess ill wait :P

Talking about the homebrew emulators (Retroarch) on Vita. I know SNES VC on 3DS is great (SNES VC is not dimmed btw) so I was wondering how the Vita compares. In this video for example, it's pretty apparent how choppy the audio is: . One game in particular that doesn't run very smooth on the New 3DS SNES emulators is Star Ocean. Is there anything on Vita that can run that game well?

I meant homebrew or vc on 3ds but yeah it is dimmed as hell I have link to the past on my new 3ds xl don't trust a video it won't duplicate the screen...as for the video it depends on what emulator you use snes2005 plays all my snes games perfectly including link to the past but if you use snes2010 you sacrifice performance for accuracy

It's probably worth changing the hotkeys in the Input menu because I personally find the default button combination really fiddly. I personally use L+R+Down+Square.

It's a nightmare on the OLED Vita and the Dual Shock 4 in particular. Tiny, recessed buttons are not a gamer's friend.

Hmm yes, it's quite possible that they are using the Snes9x 2010 core in most of those Youtube videos. So has anyone tried Star Ocean?

I've tried playing it on both the N3DS and VITA, on CatSFC and snes9x2005 respectively. It runs a lot better on the VITA.

after setting the xmb menu, you might have to delete the previous config file. open molecular shell and navigate to ux0>data>retroarch and delete the config.cfg file. then go back to retroarch and it should be using xmb style menu.

i have also noticed the longer install times. i think it started happening when they introduced the xmb menu option. also takes a bit longer to uninstall them.

the permissions is a new feature in henkaku for developers. everything available right now will come up as not safe until the devs update their brew. you can read about the changes regarding that on yifan lu's website and maybe the henkaku website.

Is it just me or does anyone else also feel that the FBA core icons look really cryptic with only the coloring indicating which hardware they are (Blue=CPS1, Yellow=CPS2, Grey=MVS, Green=FBA)?

Well anyways I modified those icons myself and added text to them so it's easier to tell:

Just add them to the respective emulator folders in ur0:/appmeta/ and restart your PS Vita/TV.
@sj33: Feel free to add these to your icon pack if you want.

i like what you did here by adding the names. there is also a variation of these that is colored a shade green. you can find it on melon_bread's github https://github.com/Melon-Bread/RetroArch_Icons_Vita/tree/master/cores

maybe keep the black one for mvs/neo geo. then what i did on my vita is cps1&2 are yellow. mame 2000&2003 are blue, fba&fba2012 are green. probably keep the related ones the same color and add the names to them like you did here.

Brilliant! That's much more clear! I'll add them to the pack!

I have a question is there a way to change the controls for the alpha neo geo emulator because when I go to quick menu the controls option is missing only for this emulator.

I wonder if Retroarch will support touch screen keys in the future, like tapping on the left side of the screen will bring up the menu for example. Having a touch button that bind with any inputs is very useful and I did this with emulator on VHBL, where the 4 corners of the screen can be assigned with any PSP layout button.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
