So I received a Sony Ericsson R800x Xperia Play for free. Everything seems to work great after a good old fashioned rooting, though RetroArch has issues. If I try to load a game or a core, it ALWAYS states that No Cores are Detected, yet I did not tell it remove them, so they should be there, but apparently are not.

How in the world do I resolve this one, I'm finding nothing on the inet.

I wouldn't trust the retroarch from the play store. I had the same issues with the PSX cores, every time I booted up a PSX game, my app crashed. Your better off just downloading the retroarch apk file from their website.
