Lately Bubble's emulators have been chewing through the battery life of my 3DS, and I'm not sure why. It started happening after a recent firmware update... homebrew software still works, but it seems like it drains the battery quickly and unpredictably. Is there anything I can do with my system to fix this? I don't *think* the battery is faulty- the system is three years old at this point- but you never know.

Any chance you are playing with "3D"? Bubble's let you use the 3d slider to turn on the pixel barrier for a grid look instead of scanlines, but I imagine that requires much more backlight plus super stable processing.

Found my solution to Sega CD games on New 3ds:

Genesis Plus GX retroarch core
bad framerates until I turned off filtering and vsync, now it works great

EDIT: Well, it works great for Dune which is a EU game and only runs at 50 fps. I'm trying some NTSC games and it kinda chugs with those unfortunately.

Yeah Gen GX is barely fullspeed for standard Genesis, any fancy Sega CD effects will tank it. Picodrive runs it great including the 3D games, I did play through Sonic CD and it was perfect, sorry to hear you can't get it working.

Is there an euro version of Sonic CD?

Snatcher on my New 3DS plays and sounds fine, except that the music at both the title screen and the opening is just screeching/static noise. In-game music and sound effects seem good, although I haven't gotten past Junker HQ yet because I've been trying to figure this out. I've tried PicoDrive v0.94, v0.93, different bios, etc. and nothing has worked. I've tried searching but I didn't see any mention of this problem elsewhere. Any ideas? Thanks.

@blaww I'm not sure how well Snatcher performs on Genesis Plus GX, which is available as part of RetroArch, but it might be worth trying that to see if you get the same issue. If it works fine in Genesus Plus GX, it may just be an emulator bug (PicoDrive is far more performance-focussed than Genesis Plus GX and may have more bugs).

If it does work better in GPGX, I can say I played Sonic CD without any performance issues that I remember, so you might be able to get away with playing it entirely on that.

The sounds do work in GPGX when I load the CUE file rather than BIN, which wasn't an option in PicoDrive. Any reason why PicoDrive's directory shows only BIN files and not the CUE?

I subscribe the forum, only for thanks Bubble, after the explanation about the bios folder in the last page, i was able to create the folder and play the Snatcher in Picodrive, the games run very nice and it´s look amazing in the small screen of the old 3DS. Thanks for the excelent work.

Were you able to get Snatcher to work without the freezing issues?

Quick update on the battery situation... it wasn't the fault of homebrew apps! I opened my system and noticed some Jiffy Popping on the battery, which meant that it had to go straight into the trash. Luckily, I had a fresh battery in my Old 3DS XL, which was quickly transplanted into my New 3DS XL.

Odd that the fast battery drain only seemed to happen with homebrew, but maybe it's because I wasn't spending enough time playing official games to make an objective judgement. Either that or homebrew is more demanding on the system hardware. Anyway, crisis averted! Carry on!

Sometimes when i play with bubble2k16 emus (picodrive or virtuaNES) I need to press the HOME button to change the luminosity of 3ds... But when i return to game the upper screen doesn't refresh anymore.. Audio instead is working. Is it normal?

Yes.

I'm a little confused. I have files of ISOs with many MP3 files, but often these will play without music. .bin/.cue files are hard to find, so is there a way to use these ISOs and have the music?
