I want to swap localization files (XFBIN-style text and UI files) inside a region data CPK of a PS5 game. Jailbroken console, ShadowMountPlus + APR Emu, game image on internal SSD.

Questions:

What is the safest way to change files inside a CPK without breaking the game? Full rebuild, or patching single files in place (CpkPatcher, CriPakTools)?

If a full rebuild is needed, which settings must match the original? (Mine is Ver.7 Rev.11, alignment 2048, 4,357 files, 1,206 compressed with Layla, filename info only, no ID/Group/CRC.)

Does anything else need to change for the game to accept the edited CPK, for example ampr_emu.index, other TOC data, or checksums?

Can these builds load loose files from the data folder over the CPK?

What I tried: extracted the original CPK and repacked it with no changes using CRI Packed File Maker. The game plays the intro, then crashes. Putting the original back works fine. Rebuilding the APR index did not help.

Details panel of the original CPK attached.
