Hacking quake help?

Hello I am axel14.I am a new hacker[well to hbc games]and I recantly downloaded the quake game,I was trying to play the quake game but when I start it up all i get is a white room full of guns.I dont know if this is lvl one,I serched through google and walkthroughs but none of them say any thing about this being the first level so I was wondering if any of you know what the problem is?
