Hacking puzzle maniak 3.6 on R4

[Another World]

I put the puzzle maniak files and the required folder in root and can not get the game to start correctly. the top screen animation and logo appear but nothing shows up on the bottom. i'm using auto dldi patching right now, i'm on holiday and do not want to litter this computer with homebrew tools.

any ideas as to why it doesn't start?

i dldi patched the .nds file with the r4 didi than ran the nopatch utility on it and it still doesn't work. i get only a black screen on the touch screen, no options to start a game.
