So if you use app2usb you can use the hdd to transfer the PKGs to the ps4 and also transfer them to the HDD? Aka being able to connect the hdd to pc?

you may be able to rebuild the database after transferring the content back in case something were to happen. I did look at the app.db, and for the game's location, it had a number, so I assume the number is an instruction only known by the system. it's possible that personal information is injected into a game pkg during installation, so reformatting the hdd would mean that the pkg would no longer work.

no. maybe both works. mine is on the root and it works.
Really? stooged himself says it needs to go there but that’s cool if it works for you.
If the guys having problems though, best to follow the developers instruction.

So I already installed a few games on my internal HDD and I want to put them on my external instead. Do I still need the pkg file on the root of my external HDD in order for it to be moved from internal? Because I kind of already deleted the pkg files. I was under the impression that you could simply move it from one to the other, but based on something I read, it said the pkg file had to be on the root to do so. Is that correct?

If the games installed to internal there is a copy of the pkg you installed there: ftp into the app/cusaxxxxx/app.pkg and copy it back to your USB device.

@gohan123 stooged did specify to put it in the PS4 folder from v1, but 16+ versions later the root seems to be the more logical location to have the ini.

couple of questions about the app2usb thing.
if i run app2usb and it copies (presumably everything on internal) to external.
1) does it mean i have to run a certain payload/app2usb payload each time i startup so that it knows to run from the external?
2) if i install a new pkg does it install to external by default?
3) are savegames still stored on internal?

thanks

1, no its symlinks so it thinks its internal, so normal payloads (hen vtx 1.6) will work just great :)

2, you can specify in apptousb ini, by default it copies any uncopied to external when you run it next.

3, yes

here's how i do it.put the pkg(lets say somegame.pkg file with cusa id 01616) on the root of you're hdd also make a folder on your hdd named PS4.
1 connect the usb to ps4 (always use the same usb port) run hen and install pkg turn ps4 off
2 back on the pc the pkg you installed should still be on the root of the hdd,now make a new folder in the ps4 map and name it to the matching pkg cusa-id (ex CUSA01616) ,rename the pkg to app.pkg (they say it's not necessery but i still do it)
3 make sure you uncheck (remove the // ) check_usb and mode_move and put the cusa-id in the list below
4 back on the ps4 run apptousb ,takes about 10 seconds to link a game

this method is much faster because you can use your pc to put it on the hdd,if you do not uncheck the ignore update create a second folder in the ps4 named update if for example you have a update for cusa01616 you make a folder in the update map,put the update pkg in the map and rename to patch.pkg

hdd:/ps4/CUSA01616/app.pkg
:/ps4/UPDATE/CUSA01616/patch.pkg
:/ps4/apptousb.ini
also check modded warfare tutorials on youtube it's for an earlier version of apptousb but you wil get the general idee

App2usb should copy it automatically from internal to external. The feature with keeping the pkg is just to save time because e.g. a 50gb game over USB 2.0 would take some time. While moving pkg is done in 1sec

I don't know if it's because you used app2usb from an earlier version and back then always was more complex. I started to use it with 5.05 and literally everything besides removing // from check usb is done automatically.

It creates the ps4 folder and any cusa and update folder on its own. It checks pkg on root, if it's there will move any pkg or update to the right folder without even renaming it and it works. If it's not on root it will copy it from the internal.

Huh, yeah I must have done something wrong then. I have 6 pkg files sitting on root and it's been very slowly transferring at 2 MB/s for an hour now. For some reason it isn't moving the pkgs, it seems to be transferring them from internal.

@BlackwingAngelx check my previous post on this page it will save you a lot of time .also check modded warfare you tube guide as i have mentioned,it's very good to learn stuff like this

Guys is there a list of games which are working on the hacked firmware 5.05? I can't seem to find one anywhere.

List is very extensive, but no formal list made as it would take ages.

Best thing to do is to think of a game, find out the release date if the game, find out if it was released on or before march 2018 (roughly) and its guaranteed to work. Anything after (April/May/June) is possible 5.05 and anything beyond June 2018 is pretty likely to be 5.50.

@BlackwingAngelx run hen first then FTP to get max speeds out of your transfers.

Brilliant. Thank you. Also is there a way to make backups of our existing discs to play them? I assume it takes a long time to do so?

the internal and external drives kind of "merge" so the information on your storage left won't change, but after some time it exceeds. so if you have 500gb internal and 1000gb external, theoretically if ever both are full, the system will show 1500gb.

for example. try to run the game without the external connected, it shouldn't boot.

Thank you for explaining this. I noticed too that the internal storage space was not going lower when using App2USB to the external, yet i know the games were on the external due to none of them playing when its unplugged from the PS4. Good to know =).

Just a question. I think I'm doing it right but just checking .

I install the pkg.
Add that CUSA to the .ini.
Then run app2usb.
That works and only runs if the hard drive is plugged in.

My question. I do it that way every time I put a new game on. And change the .ini file accordingly (the CUSA). Is that copying that one game from the internal each time? Basically. By doing it this way are all my games copying to the external properly? Do I need to update the .ini every time including all past games basically? Really struggling to explain this!

What i have been doing is just adding the new games to copy over to the drive in the ini, you can also add more than one game at once. Once you have added the games and ran app2usb you can remove the titles (CUSA) from the ini file.
