The Calgarian who died in a high-speed motorcycle crash in the city’s northeast last week was a popular and avid online content creator named Farooq Ahmad.
According to a police news release, the 39-year-old was heading eastbound on McKnight Boulevard last Wednesday at upwards of 200 km/h — roughly thrice the posted speed limit — when he lost control of his red Ducati motorcycle near Metis Trail N.E. at approximately 7:50 p.m.
Police believe Ahmad was thrown from his bike, landing in a median between the Metis Trail off-ramp and McKnight Boulevard. He was taken to hospital by EMS but died from his injuries.
“After years of dreaming, and countless nights watching reviews, I finally rode home on one of the most special bikes Ducati has ever made a tribute to legendary racer Troy Bayliss,” he wrote in the video’s description. “This isn’t just a bike, it’s a piece of racing history.”

Ahmad had recently purchased ‘dream bike’
In one non-gaming-related video he posted on July 20, which now has more than 152,000 views on YouTube, Ahmad excitingly revealed that he had purchased his “dream bike” — the same red Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss Edition that he crashed on McKnight Boulevard. In the video, he showed off the motorcycle from a parking lot overlooking downtown Calgary.“After years of dreaming, and countless nights watching reviews, I finally rode home on one of the most special bikes Ducati has ever made a tribute to legendary racer Troy Bayliss,” he wrote in the video’s description. “This isn’t just a bike, it’s a piece of racing history.”
