Hardware PS Vita PS button and Power button malfunction

I got a PS vita which seems to be playing up.

I can turn it on but it seems like the PS Button along with the rest of the buttons don't respond.

However, if i hold down the power button for about 10 seconds or so it will reboot into the Safe Mode which i can then control using the D pad and regular buttons.

If i launch a game, none of the buttons will work and the ps button/power button does nothing.

Seems like such a strange problem.
I've checked on YouTube and have removed the back to clean out the power button, but that didn't help at all.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Have you tried any of the options available in safe mode?

Seems like a firmware problem, is your PSV up to date? Does it behave this way with the memory card inserted? Have you applied any screen protection recently? Have you attempted rebuilding the database from the safe boot menu?
