I have the 2008 portal selected, and everything is fine until cookies are cleared - next time I login and a new cookie is created I get reverted to the 2010 portal layout (even though in the options 2008 is still selected). If I select 2008 again then everything is fine, at least until I close my browser.

THis option is saved in the cookies so if you delete them it will revert automatically back!

As I expected, but 2008 is still selected even when cookies are cleared so I thought it maybe saved server side.

Pretty much all other settings are saved on the server, rather than in cookies so this prolly should too, as it is good security practice to only allow cookies per session
