I have a compatible flashcard (R4I SDHC 3DS RTS from r4i-sdhc.com) that I can use for flash NtrBoot, but I guess I need a magnet too, right?

I wouldn't recommend ebay for such things. I got mine off one of those clips that are used to close potato chip bags. I only paid around a dollar for 2 of them. You can probably get them really cheap at a grocery store or a hobby/craft store. All the magnets I saw on ebay either were expensive or came with 20 or more pieces which is why I wouldn't recommend getting them from there.

I don't have this kind of store in my city, my choice is Ebay or Amazon.
For 2€, get 20 pieces is not really a problem.
I should have them in 3 days, we'll see if they are working.
Or I can send others to friends or peoples on forums.

I belive you could use both an ipad cover with the auto sleep/wake function, or your friends 3ds. Or your own, depending on what way you are doing the operation.

Put it on your fridge/freezer.
If it stay on it, it should work on your 3ds.

why not directly test it on the 3DS, if the 3DS goes to sleep mode with the lid open it works. I see no reason to test with a fridge first.
