Hacking Playing gamecube backups, where to start?

I've found this guide on GBAtemp that seems really simple, but I'm not sure if it's outdated/obsolete now.
It also seems as though this method does not work on a new wii? How can i tell if my wii is a new drive type wii or not? It's from christmas 2009 and has the serial number LU402259587.
Is there an easier method available now for playing GC isos? Would my wii even work with the method above?

I don't know if your wii is new enough or not but all you'd have to do is burn a game (wii or GC) to a disk and see if it recognizes it when you try to put it in (shows up in the disk channel or not)

there is now, though, another way to play GC iso's ... it's from USB or SD with Dios Mios (Lite) or Devolution

I'm setting up Dios Mios Lite and using Wad Manager, it's asking which IOS version to use? Which one should i use when installing the wad for Dios Mios? Should I use 249, or a different one?

I'll take a look at Dios Mios Lite.

I suggest the non-lite version, as that has USB HDD support and the lite only has SD card. I think your Wii is old enough to run disc backups but I'm not entirely sure when they started making drives blocking backups. You should burn one and try.

If your IOS249 is stub can be possible, use another cIOS or make a syscheck.

I've followed the ModMii guide perfectly, installed everything and the wad for DML. Upon booting up my game (Kirby Air Ride) i get the message "fatal error: apploader size is zero!" (I do have a disk inserted in the wii's disk drive) My ISO dump is okay as far as I know. It runs perfectly in Dolphin.

Edit: I ended up figuring it out on my own. My loader was outdated, switched from to NeoGamma to the latest version of USB Loader GX and now everything works perfect.
