Hacking On flashing a DS Lite

Another good tip (Not my idea this time) is to do it in front of a mirror so you don't have to flip it over....


My other thought was to have someone watch the screen for you so you don't have to move the DS at all and can just look at the SL1.

All this is just super extra precaution though, supposedly it's really not hard at all to do alone......

I think the mirror is more trouble than it's worth. THe text will be all backwards. It's very easy to hold the DS on its side with the screens facing you, and use your other hand to do the shorting. The hole is so small anyway, there's no need to actually watch what you're doing as long as it's insulated.

Hey Ron, I see your point, it certainly seems like all you could contact with a uninsulated shorting tool is plastic. I'm not entirely convinced there is a big risk of shorting something else in the lite, but better safe then sorry.
Yes the two semi circles is what you want to short.

Some people have reported problems with uninsulated shorting tools contacting a point to the left of the SL1 points. Others have mentioned shorting to the ight of SL1 with the base of the shorting tool. That could be a problem even with a insulated shorting tool. I believe it would be very hard to get wrong, but then again I've had nothing but success. I could be lucky.

IMO The biggest risk is shorting SL1 to ground by touching the shield of the GBA card slot on the Lite. It is surprisingly easy to do and the shield isn't very visible when the Lite is assembled.

Those that wish to see the screen while flashing don't need to use a mirror or anything particularly fancy. Adjusting the angle between the upper and lower screen will show you a reflection legible enough to see the progress indicator in the other screen.

It's just an extra safequard in case it unplugs or the battery falls out.

In response to that, before I tried flashing, I was worried about the battery. So I tried to shake it out and it wouldnt come out. They I shook REALLY hard. And still it wouldn't move. Whats keeping it in there?

Im not sure where to start first walmart? then futureshop/best buy? not to mention futureshop and best buy have those 15 bucks off coupons. yet i like walmart's return policy better in case of dead pixels. where to go, where to go!

Who cares if the text is backward? The only thing who have to check is the % going up. I use the trick mirror too, i flashed 8 ds and i love the mirror trick.

Son of a bitch. They told me the head office is required to give them the full preorder within 48 hours of release or something like that. And guaranteed me one if I pre-ordered. If I don't get one and other stores have them I'm gonna be pretty pissed. Where are these EBs that are only getting 25?

$15 coupons? I haven't heard about this. EB tried to sell me a 1 year warranty when I asked about dead pixels, saying Nintendo offers only 3 months. I checked Nintendo's site and it says 1 year warranty on all systems. I only put down a $5 deposit. Maybe I should check Wal-Mart and give up the $5.

Thanks. I wouldn't count on another store matching it when it looks so plain and doesn't even say the store name, but it's worth a try. Keep in mind that they'll make you buy something else to hit the $150 mark before taxes. I guess I'll call up EB Games down at eatons centre this week and try to see if they'll tell me whether they can fill all the pre-orders or not.

I just found out that the DS Lite doesn't come with a thumb strap, and I already bought Mario 64 which uses it!!
