Hi there guys, I am a long term Gateway 3DS user, but have not kept up with the scene. I came on GBA temp to see how progress on the scene. I am astonished with all of the progress so far, the developers of the released homebrew apps and payloads are really impressive.

To the main point. I have a strong desire to play GBA games on my 3DS on the go. I want to keep functionality of Gateway 3DS, but at the same time. I want to update to Pasta CFW and enjoy GBA games as I have seen in a few threads.

My 3DS sys NAND is on 4.5, I don't really want to update the sysNAND past 4.5 as I want to continue to use Gateway at points too. I am just too confused, there are so many new things that I don't know where to start.

Could someone be ever so kind to help a gal out?

If you wanna keep 4.5 and play GBA games, then use rxTools CFW form here. Make sure your SysNand and EmuNand are linked so you only need to instal things in EmuNand, otherwise you will need to instal things on SysNand and EmuNand.

Also GW Emunand is compatible with rxTools, so no need for second Emunand.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not really tech orientated, usually my boyfriend would do this stuff for me but he's away for training for his job. Do you have a Skype or something that you can PM me and possibly help me through the guide?

I appreciate your prompt response!

I don't have a skype, but it should not be to hard to set up for newbies (like myself).

For setting up the rxTools just follow this page, insert the FW ver. and "Browser not available", click send and it will give exact instructions on how to set up and how to lunch it.
For playing GBA games you will have to download FBI cia instaler from here. Then follow this guide (MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERY LITTLE THING, cause if you screw up, you can BRICK your system). You may see that its for Pasta, but don't worry, its exacly the same for rxTools.

As for creating GBA CIAs you are a bit on your own. The GBA footer generator will give you the right save setting, but it will not always work. If its EEPROM save type thats giving you a problem, you may have to patch it to SRAM.

Again if your EmuNand and SysNand are linked, then you will only need to instal things on your EmuNand (You can check that by running apps (instaled in Emunad) in SysNand, then entering GW mode. If there is a present in the place of app you have ran before entering, then it should be linked (you may have to try that a few times and I am not sure if that is correct way to tell if its linked)).

As for instaling CIAs on SysNand I can not help you. I have never tried it.

Its probably your agb_firm or the footer you used.

Just to make sure, reinstal everything. If the problem procedes then ask for help in this thread.

Also for the new 3DS, you have to instal different version (its metioned on the same thread).

Right, I have rxTools working on my 3DS. This may be a silly question, but how do I play my cartridge backups from my gateway? I'm assuming because the launcher is something completely different, it doesn't include multi-rom?

You can't. You will have to swich between GW and rxTools.

I have both .dat in my SD and both .nds on my micro SD for blue card. If i wanna play GBA games, I just instal the exploit for rxTools, otherwise I instal GW exploit (You will have to do that every time you want to switch between GW and rxTools).

EDIT: You can create CIAs of those backups, if you wanna avoid the trouble of switching.

Right that's awesome. Now I'll just need to figure out this GBA thing and so as you said, put both installers and carry my blue card around too :P Thank you ever so much Frenk, if I could thank you more I would.

I have no idea what could be the problem.

You may have to go with rotebrotobias's advice mentioned here (first post on this page) and download the rxTools mod from here.

Other than that, I can not help you anymore.

they need to have a strong line up on the launch titles too. I think they should move metroid prime 4 to the next console because by now it has been quite a while and there's no release date scheduled yet

well as far as metroid prime 4 is concerned, the next system probably is similar enough to the current gen they can probably easily just slap it onto a next gen cart and call it good :P
