They're possibly the same thing but if you're really lucky and it's a REALLY old model you might have some hacking improvements.Hi guys!
Just chiming in and hoping to get some answers.
I was at a local sale today and got me a Wii very cheap. I already have a Wii, but hey, the low price made it totally worth it!
But the thing was. I was choosing between a black (NEW MODEL) and a white (OLD MODEL).
Due to the pressure at the sale, i made a quick decision to buy myself a white (OLD MODEL). But now I am wondering if there are any differences when it comes to hacking? Should I´ve been taking the black (NEW MODEL) instead?
Here's some of the advantages
- BootMii as Boot2 (great brick protection)
- Downgradable (DON'T do this anyhow ... but just in case you do something stupid, older ones are more compatible with older IOS versions.)
- DVD-R compatibility
- GameCube controller / memory card support.
(I actually can't remember off hand if the downgradability thing or the DVD-R compatibility was dropped first but it doesn't really matter that much.)
When they started making black ones was when they dropped the DVD-R compatibility, I think. (Any colored ones fall into this category ... and I think any white one that includes the Motion Plus accessory or the WiiMote+ controll, too) ... EDIT : Oh, and also, the WiiMote+ has problems with some older homebrew.
So, basically, white is more likely to be old enough to be better for hacking. (Older is better in any form, anyway.)
