I have a wii back on like 3.2 and the homebrew channel. I want to update some things so i can play games off of my HDD. will installing MMM do the trick? like can i update most things safely from there?

well the harddrive is 250gb..... but anyway send a link to that tool, it sounds like it will help out,

im using cfg loader and none other so idc if my games dont work in another.
but my wii games would not work unless converted to wbfs format on a fat32 harddrive ?
i would be able to do that but i would prefer to keep them as iso's because the conversion would take awhile.
also i dont understand why wii iso's wouldn't be compatible but gamecube iso's would be ?
he had a link in his sig > http://gbatemp.net/t291320-wbfs2fat-py

Anyways, gamecube uses completely different loading methods. I'm not sure why they need to be .wbfs files. I heard that people can run Wii ISOs if the drive is formatted NTFS or something, however i never really checked it.
Yeah, Wii ISO's work just fine. It's just the problem that FAT32 can't do files that big. Anyway, if you use the wbfx2fat.py tool, there's practically no conversion time. In that case it wouldn't have anything to do with "keeping" the files in ISO format since we're talking about the ones that are on the WBFS drive and are already in .wbfs format. It's a lot less work. You already did the conversion from ISO to WBFS when you "copied" them onto the drive.

Hey i have a bit of a strange situation on me that i dont know if i can just google up. Basically i modded my System Version 4.2u a while ago and for some reason over time of using USB Loader GX and experimenting trying to use other homebrew apps and stuff i realised that even following tutorials word for word, i kept getting errors and USB Loader GX has began to stop running certain games like Twilight Princess and more. Im not sure why this keeps happening, i searched for a solution multiple times but it never ends well (or i get distracted...).

I would like to continue exploring the "Fabulous World of Wii Hacking" but all of these error messages are becoming a bit of a bother...Did i hack my wii incorrectly? Is there a way to check if something specific or multiple things are unstable? What do i doooo?

N00b question: Is it possible to use CFG USB Loader and/or USB Loader GX to load games from a emunand using UNEEK neek2o?

I'd say use ModMii and just go through it as if you had never hacked your Wii. (It will just overwrite everything with the correct stuff and it should all work again.)
N00b question: Is it possible to use CFG USB Loader and/or USB Loader GX to load games from a emunand using UNEEK neek2o?
Those can run games from emuNAND. There are a few games that only a xNEEK can run them from emuNAND and will not work from a backup loader but most work fine.

Couldn't find anywhere to ask this, but is having a launch Wii at this stage in the game beneficial at all? I've been out of the Wii scene for a while - mine has 4.1E on it and loading all games from an external HDD. It still plays discs fine (including dual layer ones) and has never been sent back to Nintendo.

Don't know why I'm asking, just curious! :P

The main benefits of having a launch Wii are BootMii as Boot2 and being able to read DVD-R disks. I think newer ones can do all the rest of the same stuff (well, unless you count the NEWEST ones, then you'd have to add having GC ports as a benefit.)

Do you know if I have to install anything extra in the emuNAND to run those USB loaders, or it's enough to just install the cIOSes one would have installed in the real NAND?

OH, ok. I think I misunderstood the question. What I was saying was that those loaders (at least I know GX for sure) while running in real NAND can see and run WiiWare and VC directly from your emuNAND folder using a d2x cIOS. I'm not sure if either of those can be run themselves from inside a running emuNAND. I know WiiFlow and PostLoader can but I'm not sure about others.

Installing the cIOS in emuNAND wouldn't hurt (just to be sure ... I don't actually know if it would load them from real or emulated NAND) and then you could always try it yourself. I don't see a quick test causing any damage or anything.

Nope, unfortunately they can't be run from a emuNAND using the regular cIOSes. I tried this previously and was unable to run either loader, so I was wondering if it was possible to run them installing something special.

Thank you for your responses anyway.

I am returning after a year or so and I see massive progress (most impressively on the GameCube-front) for which i could use some clarification:
  • Am I right to think that Devolution does not run in GameCube mode but uses an IOS?
  • Does Dios Mios (Lite) overwrite the MIOS?
  • If so, I remember everyone saying that USB was disabled once the Wii entered GameCube-mode, does anyone know how DM(L) overcame this problem?
  • Is the MIOS stored on the NAND along with the IOS's?
  • How does DML work? Does the MIOS contain all syscalls for disc reads, memory card writes, etc? Or does it actually interpret the binaries?
  • How does Devolution work? Is it essentially the Dolphin emulator made to run on the Wii?
Kudos to the developers for the impressive work they keep producing.

Yeah, the past couple months have shown leaps and bounds in the GC area. I'll try to answer the questions but some answers are more technical than I can even understand but I'll do my best
  • Yes.
  • Yes.
  • The reason it was disabled was (If I understand right) because the code that's needed to interact with it is too big and there's very little memory available to the MIOS in GC mode. I think Crediar re-wrote parts or all of that code himself with a very stripped down version of it so it would fit.
  • Yes.
  • I kinda think the MIOS does contain those calls but I do know it also patches some of the code when it loads it off the game. (Even the original Nintendo MIOS did that to fix certain games.)
  • It's more of a virtual machine. It uses hardware virtualization that the processor architecture already provides to redirect system calls.
Again, I might just be completely wrong but this is the way it's been described to me at least.

EDIT : I stand corrected.

MIOS doesn't really do anything besides load the game into memory, possibly patch some parts of it, then start it. After that the only thing it's responsible for is waiting for the power button to be pressed. The game itself handles all hardware access like disc reads, memory card access, controller polls etc.

Thanks for the answers, they cleared up a lot of things. So does MIOS load the entire game into memory? If so, does that mean that Dios Mios patches all necessary hardware calls and then basically nothing after starting the game?

I've recently learned that Action Replay codes can be converted to work with the Ocarina, but I'm not so sure how to use it.
I have the two programs to convert: gcncrypt (AR Codes decryption) and ARtoWiiRD (AR Code decryption to Ocarina code). These two programs are on the computer.
----
1) I don't know where the .gct file should be located. I'm using Configurable USB Loader (CFG) and DIOS MIOS 2.2.
Should the path be usb:/codes/[GAMEID].gct or sd:/codes/[GAMEID].gct?
----
2) Some code conversions result in only a one-line code.
For example:
These Pokemon Colosseum AR Codes
Code:
OUT OF BATTLE CODES:
BQ2K-1T4K-QRTV6

HAVE 9999 OF THE FOLLOWING IN PC:
U7HG-EAXC-MR0T2
converted into a decryption looks like this:
Code:
OUT OF BATTLE CODES:
0522D3E6 05008000

HAVE 9999 OF THE FOLLOWING IN PC:
0522D423 05008000
I'm not sure if these codes will work at all, because the first line in each code has to be deleted because the first line does not function with Ocarina. Plugging these codes into ARtoWiiRD results in the same code.
----
3) Are games required to have the master code in order for the codes to be enabled?
----
Thanks in advance :)

?? the wii does not have 1.3GB of memory. The games are still read from SD card as apposed to from disc.

It loads the whole executable file of some sort into memory (whether that's a DOL or ELF or if that's specifically the apploader I'm not too clear on) but the whole disk doesn't contain 100% compiled programming code (not even close). Most of the space would be taken up by videos, images, 3D models and stuff like that. That stuff, the game executable (or executables) loads into memory as it needs it. I'm not sure how DM(L) actually goes about redirecting those system calls but what you've mentioned seems like a reasonable possibility.

Hey guys, recently I sold my wii to a friend and now he has problems.Trying to run a PAL Guitar hero 6 on a Pal wii. I did a Darkcorp installation a long time ago I don't really remember what version sadly.
Point is, when the DVD is put in, the disc channel detects it, and wants to do a system update . I told my friend not to do it. So, trying to launch it with Neogamma, it gives an error about menu not found. Then trying Gecko, it just gives a black screen.
Any idea on how to fix this? I did a SysCheck, here it is:

Just install PriiLoader and install this hacks.ini file
http://gbatemp.net/topic/237575-41x-42x-43x-hacksini/
and turn on the hacks to block updates. It should load from the disk channel just fine.
