Hey guys, n00b here. I'm stumped, and I need your wisdom. Here's a run-down of where I am.
I was running USB Loader GX from my Wii 3.2U HBC with cIOS38rev16 and it was working great. But I wanted to install some wads (which I have yet to do successfully), and figured I needed a backup to proboot system for protection. I installed a BootMii IOS to run from SD card (boot1 prevents me from yadda yadda boot2 install), and used that to back up my NAND. So far, so good.
I decided to go with a preloader 0.29 install to boot me to my HBC 1.0.6 (installed from HACKmii 0.6) in case of emergencies and overall convenience. At first I didn't know about the JODI problem, so I installed the regular preloader which I found was not loading HBC at all. So I got wise and found preloaderv0.29-jodi... but wasn't sure what to do with it since I already had preloader installed. I decided I'd just run install over with the new boot.dol and that would probably overwrite the correct path. Was that a bad idea? Now when preloader starts, I try to boot to HBC and I either get a black screen or a frozen HBC screen with graphical errors. But if I then load HBC from Sysmenu, then go back to preloader by exiting HBC, I can now load HBC from it just fine.
Why can't I get HBC to load from preloader's startup? If it always has to be run from System Menu first, then it's rather pointless for my purposes. I guess I could try to boot to a dol, but I don't know what to choose to boot to, and I'm afraid that the same loading problem with HBC will follow whatever else I try to boot from. Do I need to uninstall preloader and start over? If so, how do I do it and what do I need?
Oh and sometimes, preloader doesn't recognize my wiimote, other times it does. That strikes me as odd. Do I need to turn the Wii on with the Wiimote to get it to register, or is there a known bug related to this?
One more Q. Preloader at the bottom of the screen tells me "IOS v30 Systemmenu v289". I thought I was running 3.2U and v249 with my cIOS38rev16? What does it all mean? I can no longer go to my Wii System Data area in the System Menu to check, it just goes black and freezes. Are there multiple versions or did I change something vital on accident? The only hack I installed from Preloader was for region free channels (again, for the wads). Do the hacks have something to do with why my Wii's System Data page no longer functions? And what IOS should I choose when I use Wad Manager 1.4 to install wads? Does it make any difference?
Sorry if some of this has been covered before, I'm still searching the forums for answers. Please help me out!
Edit: Should I try my luck with
this advice and upgrading to Sys menu 4.0 or will I have other problems if I bother? Will Waninkoko System 4.0 Updater get rid of preloader?
