If you did the above, chances are you may have the new D2-3 Drive, which is incapable of reading DVD-Rs.
Its D3-2 but thats just something small

If you know the serial, you can calculate the chance on a D3-2 drive with http://www.wiidrives.com/list

Not really a noob here, but I'd like a solid answer from people who know.

I have a first run wii, fully hacked, 3.2u-
I've read countless times that upgrading to 4.2 would be a positive.
Though, since the early days of hacking I've always been told. DON'T UPDATE YOUR SHIT!

Simply.
If I upgrade using THIS http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901 guide- I shouldn't have to re-do any hacks and everything will be working as it had?
I really don't feel like reinstalling the hacks.

I'm updating my Wii after being away from a while. I was on 4.1u, fully softmodded. I've upgraded to HBC 1.06, wanin's rev 14 cios, hermes rev4 cios, and the newest usbloader gx.

I used zektors safe updater to 4.2. Do I need to mess with the trucha on anything?

I also lost preloader settings. Should I grab priiloader? Is it ready for prime time?

If I want to experiment with rev16, can I load it into IOS 250 without disturbing the rev14 in IOS 249?

New member, new to the wii but I am not technically challenged.

My problem is that my backups wont load.

Version 4.0u
Serial LU70189XXX

"Fully Hacked" as fas as I'm concerned.

Homebrew channel.
Truncha bug patch on IOS 36 using 15 and then restored.
cIOS 249 rev 16.
cIOS 202/222/223

Neogamma r8 beta 15 timesout. (tried other versions as well including gamma loader)

Backup wont load on good quality DVD-R (tried different DVD brands and games).

What am I missing?
Is it because my drive wont read DVD-R? And if so, what are my options? Load games from USB?

Please help.
Thank you.

Don't mess with anything unless something doesn't work

Neogamma doesn't work with rev16. Download rev14

Ok. Will try.

Do I have to "uninstall" or will it overwrite?

Thanks for the quick reply. I did spend a lot of time reading... It actually took 6 hours to make it this far!!

Cheers!

New to the scene here...

I have a (new) virgin wii LU 1168XXXXX

I'm currently on 4.0 Is there any reason NOT to update to 4.2 and then mod? (Is there any advantage to keeping 4.0?)

Similar to post above:

I have a virgin Wii on 4.1U currently.

Loaded HackMii Installer and noticed I can install BootMii on boot2.
grog.gif
Didn't install anything so far though...

So what would be better: softmod and stay on 4.1 or upgrade to 4.2 and them softmod?

Lots of sites says against upgrading to 4.2, but I'm not sure what is the current scene for it...

it's your choice if you want to update as 4.1 and 4.2 are identical in terms of features

I have a 4.1U Wii.
With the xxyz guide, I managed to upgrade it to 4.2U by installing some wads files.

When it got 4.2U, I installed HBC, DVDX and BootMii as IOS (the HackMii installer said that it can only install BootMii as IOS)
Then I made a NAND Backup , then apply the trucha bug, stub removal,
Then I installed some IOS : 202, 222 ,223 and 249-v14, 249-v15, 250-v14, 250-v15
Then I installed the PriiLoader, apply some hack : disable online update, disable disc update, region free
After that, I installed NeoGamma r8 beta 15, but when I load the Cooking Mama - World Kitchen disc from the NeoGamma, it said DVD Read Error 1048

Can I just restore NAND to make it back before messing up with the IOS ? Does it harm ?
I don't have USB so I cannot test over USB

This may be a dumb question but what exactly is it about Wiis with D3-2 drives that makes them not read backup discs? Can one expect that there'll be a way around it in the future to run backups other than changing components inside the wii?

EDIT: Except running games from SD card or USB drive...

My question:

I have a wiikey and softmod with cios rev 14, and 4.2U. Tiger Woods 2010 and FF Crystal Bearers won't work when burnt. Tried burning multiple times, and older games on these discs work. Does someone know what might be wrong?

Also, Tiger Woods uses IOS55-64-v4633 doesn't work, but Wii Sports Resort which also uses IOS55-64-v4633 works just fine.

Hey everyone.

I have a friend who updated to 4.2, I have some questions.

When we tried to install BootMii using Bannerbomb it said that it could only be installed as IOS, is there a way to install it as boot2?

Is it safe to install wads on 4.2? what should I use to do that?

Is there a way to play backup games without using a modchip?

Thanks!
