Hey guys. I was once fully up to date on Wii homebrew, but I've stopped checking up. I'm on 4.0, running cIOS...v12 I think? USB Loader and a disc loader channel installed. No BootMii or Preloader.

I'd like to get up to date with 4.2 and the current version of cIOS, and maybe gain the ability to run burned GameCube games because I want to get some discontinued games like Donkey Konga (I have the bongos).

What do I need to do to upgrade? Thanks for the help!

http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901
Just use that guide to Upgrading to 4.2

and i HIGHLY suggest getting bootmii

This guide is for people already on 4.2. Should I just update through Nintendo and then follow the guide?

Please help. ok I have a wii 4.2 and upgraded it with bannerbomb v2. I followed the instructions on how to soft mod it, so I used the trabucha restorer, deleter etc. I use to be able to play backed up games but when I played skate it, it froze. I use NeoGamma R7 and now whenever I load a game, backed up or a bought copy, I get a dvd error 1101.

Someone please help me as I have little siblings who use the wii and I feel like a failure.

Quick question!
So I've backed up my NAND using BootMii, and it says a few (3) blocks can't be copied. Is this an issue if I'm ever screwed and have to reinstall my NAND?

Do you mean those bad blocks (the black ones)? Don't worry. That's totally normal, because every NAND flash chip comes at least with one from factory, and up to 80. They don't interfere with the console's operation.

Quick question, I haven't messed around with my wii in ages, as I was bored. The last time i updated anything was when waninkoko released his 1.1 usb loader.

It's at 3.2 w/ starfall. Should I upgrade, or leave it at the version it's already at, and just uninstall starfall, and install preloader, and update my ios's and stuff? or what?

Any help on my issue would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2007 Wii, with an original Wiikey that has served me well.
My current Wii firmware is 3.3E (PAL).
I have homebrew channel installed (using twilight hack) and Gecko OS loader, which I have to use for SSBB to work, because it is the original NTSC version

Now, I haven't updated it in a couple of months, as the only games I play are older ones.

Anyway, I'm planning on selling it to a friend, who is not so great with computers/homebrew/etc. So what is my best option to ensure that my Wii is fully updated and my friend has no chance of bricking it, while still being able to play backups using the normal disc channel? Should I just update my Wiikey (it's currently at 1.9g i think) and will it serve it's purpose to play future backups? My friend has no need for fancy homebrew/emulators/channels.

Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the newborn but just typing Mplayer CE in Google and the first thing you'll find is the Wii Brew page.

didnt think of just typing that i always added crap at the end like "wad" or "newest", thanks for the answers and reminding me to keep my searches simple

sorry but i feel like i keep going in circles 8(

Update to 4.2 through Ninty and follow the xzxero's guide (it's on "Stickies").

Comex's NAND Formatter or update to 4.1? If so, he wouldn't need to update and, mostly, won't have problems with games.

If i'm still on 3.2u, can i just use waninkokos firmware updater to go to 4.2(i went to 4.1 with it) and still have everything work fine and have wii motion plus support. I was out of the loop for a while and a whole bunch of other loaders came out and im still using a force ntsc gamma loader. Will this loader load newer games that require motion plus, the latest game i tried was dead space extraction and it worked.

Thanks

Yes forwarders need an SD card. I thought I've seen stand-alone Mplayer CE channels but can't find them.

Okay, thanks. I just wasn't sure,
I remember when 3.2 was the safest firmware to be at... heh.

EDIT: It says I have to email them, and I did.. but still nothing. would you happen to have the ntsc mod.rar file? If not, could i just use this guide vs the xzxero one?

It's a really good guide. You could use either one. xzxero has contributed to it.

Already done, I attached the log in the post above.

EDIT AGAIN:

So, out of curiosity, I clicked "check boot2 info" under trucha bug restorer, it said I had version 4, but If i updated to 4.2 via wifi, that the boot 2 would say that, and not to judge it by that if it's the case. Not exact words, butt. So does that mean i have to downgrade boot2 or something... or did me updating make it impossible to have a fully functioning bootmii? :/ I'm sort of confused.

There's not an app that does such a thing... I thought BootMii can be installed on Boot2v4 if the Boot1 version is an old one? My Wii is a LU54 and I have BootMii installed as Boot2 without any prob, though... Maybe someone else can help you.
